Thanks a lot guys
I would be interested in learning how you magnetized the wing hard points, as my attempt to do so was a dismal failure...
I used the guide available on Corbania Prime (
corbaniaprime.blogspot.com/2009/05/tutorial-magnetising-valkyrie.html) as a base.
To sum it, you'll need:
- green stuff
- 2 mm diameter rare earth magnets, 1 mm thickness
- caliper
- exacto knife
- hand drill with 2 mm bits
- super glue, gelified if possible
- larger magnets (5 mm or more) to set the 2 mm magnets in place
Hard Point Magnetization1. Start by filling the hard points with green stuff (or brown stuff if you prefer a sturdier resin). Let fully cure.
2. Using the tip of your exacto knife, point it where you want to place the center of the first hole. Drill a bit of cured resin with a circular motion of the blade tip to prepare for hand drilling.
3. Repeat step 2 to center the second magnet hole on the hard point. Make sure you don't place it too close from the edge of the hard point, else you'll drill it away to accomodate the magnet!
4. Use the pointy end of the caliper to get the exact spacing between your magnets, then leave it aside. It is important to keep this spacing intact, as you'll use it afterwards.
5. Drill the hard point until you can accomodate the magnets.
6. Dry fit your 2 mm magnet. If your 5 mm one isn't flush with the hard point level, drill a bit deeper then try again.
7. Drop superglue into the hole and on its side. Set the 2 mm magnet using the larger one. Wait 10 seconds then move the large one sideways: the 2 mm one stays in the hole!
Missiles magnetization
1. Shave the mould line that run through the missile. Make sure to keep a trace of it visible after shaving it: you'll use the line to center your holes.
2. Using the tip of your exacto knife, point it where you want to place the center of the first hole. Drill a bit of plastic with a circular motion of the blade tip to prepare for hand drilling.
3. Use your caliper to place the center of the second hole. Press its point into the plastic to get a trace of where the center of the hole will be.
4. Repeat step 2 to pre-drill the second hole.
5. Drill the missile until you can accomodate the magnets.
6. Dry fit your 2 mm magnet. If your 5 mm one isn't flush with the hard point level, drill a bit deeper then try again. It's OK if the magnet isn't 100% flush, because of the curved nature of the missile. Just make sure it's almost flush.
7. Drop superglue into the hole and on its side. Set the 2 mm magnet using the larger one. Wait 10 seconds then move the large one sideways: the 2 mm one stays in the hole!
Rocket Pods magnetization1. While assembling the pods, use green stuff to bulk the inside of the rocket pod attachment point. Let cure 24 hours then glue the pod shut. The plastic should be deep anough that you don't drill through it, but better be safe than sorry!
Repeat Steps 2-7 of the missile magnetization.
Lascanons magnetizationThe idea is the same. I used the FW upgrade kit, which required a bit more prep work.
Hope it will help!
