----------------------------------------------------------------------------
turn 1:
-Guard- the first rays of dawn crept over the horizon as the swarm approched. The weary sentries of the 582nd stared blearily out into the distance. On the horizon a rippling tide of chitin and blades advanced towards them. An alarm sounded over the vox amplifiers +++all squads to the firing steps, Tyranids incoming+++ The wait was over, the tyranids were here. The first volley took out a few gaunts and wounded one of the advancing trio of carnifexes but still the swarm seemed unstoppable.
-Tyranids- The malicious entity that was the hive mind directed it's minions towards the remaining prey. Ignorant of all deaths they relentlessly advanced.
2nd turn:
-The guard were now fully awake and fighting for survival. After killing off a few more gaunts the orders came in +++hold the trench or die trying+++
-The tyranids got closer loosing off salvos of fleshborer beetles which burrowed their way into some of the unlucky guardsmen. The lucky ones died fast, the others didn't. A rumbling from the trench floor could be felt by everyone of the terrified guardsmen. A trygon prime burst out of the ground in the midst of the men.
3rd turn:
-The orders came through +++Fix bayonets, this is going to get bloody+++. The guardsmen took seconds to fix their bayonets and reload their rifles, those seconds would cost them. The trygon in their midst was barley visible beneath the volleys of lasfire from the nearby troopers, it didnt do much more than urine it off. gunfire from the rest of the trenches took out two of the carnifexes by now but the real danger was forgotten in the whirlwind of battle. The warriors advanced through the gaunts, ready to kill.
-The tyranids ran through the trench slaughtering along the way. whole squads were killed off in the assault and few gaunts died in return. the trygon recognized the CCS and instinctively went for it. the CCS in return attacked, for all the good it would do. Captain Volarus's Command squad was almost utterly obliterated in the assault. Only he and his standard bearer remained.
4th turn:
- The assault was breaking through and the guardsmen were being slaughtered were they stood. The captain, in a moment of desparation or bravery stood his ground against the trygon. after surviving it's assault he reached his powerfist into it's mouth and punched into it's brain, killing it instantly. Climbing on top of the ruined body he shouted with the last of his strength, "For the emperor." the guardsmen bravely charged into the swarm, into hell, and into Glory.
-The tyranid's advance would not be stopped by the act of defiance that the prey made, they didnt care nor halt their attack. The guard's defense didnt last too long after that. They were all killed, they fought to the last man. Captain Volarus's body lay on the ground, cut down by the hive tyrant himself. The tyranids advanced towards the hive, now under evacuation. The 582nd had bought them as much time as they could, it was not enough.
