Greetings, IGMB! I've been a lurker for some time, as the Inquisition is wont to do every now then*, but I've finally steeled myself and made an account! Now before I begin *draws bolt pistol* Trooper, if you come near me with that unnecessarily large, unsterilized needle Emperor help me... Now that that's out of the way I suppose this is the part where I tell you all why I love the Imperial Guard and talk about my army a bit so here it goes:
My Guard regiment is the 42nd Epsilon Harbingers; that's right, our world doesn't even get a proper name! Planet 'Epsilon' is a death world similar to Caliban, covered in thick forests inhabited by all manner of unpleasant beasties that love nothing more than to eat you, lay eggs in your digestive tract, and kill you, generally in that order. Why anyone would ever settle there is beyond me. Now unlike Caliban, the folks of Epsilon have a tech level relatively on par with the rest of the Imperium, minus the fancier toys one would get if their planet wasn't resting on the outer fringe. As a result, the Harbingers are excellent woodland and mountain fighters, with a dash of urban experience, who either make their equipment last as long as possible or "requisition" some of the nicer hardware from regiments that they are fighting alongside. It is very common to see vehicles with another paint job clearly visible under the hastily sprayed on olive drab, or look at the Colonel's command Chimera and see that the new Hunter-Killer Missile looks suspiciously like a retrofitted air-to-surface missile ripped off of a Valkyrie. The Harbingers do not currently field or possess Valkyries. The army's currently in a state of being partially painted, as my definition of a quick paint job always turns into "make it look as nice as my skill allows", but I'm not allowing myself to paint my Creed model until I have most of the troops finished. Hopefully that'llextort motivate me to get a move on.
That's all I feel I can get away with without getting a big boot into the fluff section, so a little about why I love the Imperial Guard. Frankly, I love the underdog. The idea of these guys getting forced into a unit, given some tissue paper and a flashlight, and sent off to face slavering hordes of daemons, overly muscled sentient fungus with attitude, evil zombie robots from the planet's core and elves with laser guns appeals to me. Call me a masochist, you're probably right. But more than that, I love a super adaptive, something for every situation kind of army and the IG fits the bill perfectly.
Well, that's my rant. I look forward to getting to know you all as I become an active member of the IGMB!
