So I had a large apocalypse game at the weekend. I can't remember exactly what each side had but I will try my best. I had:
Emperor's Deliverance Rocket Battery,
Pask's Mailed Fist Tank Command (3 Demolishers, 6 Russes),
Imperial Shield Infantry Company,
Baneblade,
Shadowsword,
Misc other units (vets, STs, Ratlings, penal troopers, etc.)
My enemy had:
Lots of land raiders,
Thunderhawk,
Whirlwind Supression Force,
Vindicator line breaker squadron (5 vindicators),
random terminators and troops.
Alright. We played along the length of a 8'x4' table. I had to hold the fortress, which was treated as 3 seperate objectives. I deployed over most of the table, leaving 2' of the far end clear for the attackers. So, my deployment looked like this:
You can see the three main areas of my deployment:
1: The forward platoon, holding the ruins. These were basically a suicide speed bump, but I'll get to that later. There are also 2 banewolves and a thunderer to offer support.
2: The main forces deployed around the fortress. Pasks tank command and the superheavies were supporting the main infantry deployment.
3: The artillery park, protected by the third platoon. The mechanised vets lay in wait for any attack against the deathstrike bait (missile absent).
Reserves: Rough riders, vendetta, stormtroopers, Harker, sentinels and the like.
Enemy Forces:
My opponent put all of his vindicators to roll down the centre, some lascannon squads in the buildings, some rhinos in support and the whirlwinds with their spotter landspeeder and a techmarine in the corner. There were also some assault squads ready to move forward.
Assets: We both got a few free assets for formations and picked two extra ones each. We both got a scheduled bombardment and flank march. I also had long range ack-ack to keep the thunderhawk away for a bit.
Turn one he rolls forward and lays into the baneblade, which was immobilised and lost some structure points. The landspeed brought heavy artillery down on the front platoon, along with a scheduled bombardment and an assault squad.
My counter attack was deadly. The manticores unleashed a massive alpha strike, launching eleven rockets at the manticores. I misread the rules though and should have doubled the number of shots. It was effective enough though, damaging or destroying most of his front line.
The couple of men from first platoon command that had not died or fled managed to make the ultimate sacrifice. The vox caster called an apocalyptic barrage on his position, cleansing the area of all life.
Lots of action for the next few turns, I only took photos at the end after this so I'll try to highlight some of the main points. His main forces rolled on my right flank, making a heavy thrust towards the objectives with landraiders and dreadnoughts. I did a lot of firefighting with my different reinforcments, taking out armour with my meltas. The manticores kept managed to get a few reloads and do some more damage.
So, by the end most of the battlefield was obliterated. Some of the notable cases:
- The baneblade was immobilised on turn one. By the end of the game it had one structure point and no weapons left. Pretty much a husk.
- The Thunderhawk took two structure points damage from the first two things that fired at it, a single missile launcher and a pair of lascannons. It the managed to save against every single thing I fired at it for the rest of the game. At least I took out its turbo laser at the start too.
- The four men that fled from the first platoon, before the barrage, managed to kill a marine captain as they fled past him.
Some end pictures for you. Final score, 2-0 to me. He had a dread contesting one, although the thunderhawk was very close to another.
