Hello, all!
Reporting for full, active duty after lurking for quite awhile and finally decided to get back into the hobby thanks to you guys (here's looking at you Trooper, Red, Yeti, RT, etc. you're my inspiration). I picked up an AoBR a couple of weeks ago and played a couple of 1-squad games with my roommate (whom I will most likely be playing with the majority of the time) just to learn the rules. Then I realized my IG were still at my Dad's house, so I went and picked them up and realized I could field a completely vanilla platoon for the same price as the AoBR Ork Boyz squad. So we pitted the two life-long enemies together and each won once. Thus my Imperial flame was rekindled!
But I have some basic questions for you guys that I could not quite find on my own. So here goes:
1. Orders - Is the command radius measured from the Officer or his squad? I figured from him, but still worth asking.
2. FRFSRF - Does using this order still allow the squad to shoot any special/heavy weapons that may be in it? Or are they wasted since the FRFSRF causes the lasguns to shoot IMMEDIATELY at the beginning of shooting phase? (Now that I'm actually writing this out I realize that the answer is probably that the can shoot, since you don't really have to group your shots by squad...or do you? AUGH I'm confused...)
3. Valkyrie - Can I still shoot Hellstrike Missiles (Ordinance) with other weapons? If moving? I was looking for this in the rulebook after a few to many celebratory beers (I just did super well on two really hard tests, so shh) and couldn't figure out exactly what was going on. I know it says that Ordinance weapons can't be fired with any other weapon in the rule book, but I guess I'm more wondering if that applies to fast vehicles too.
4. Regimental Standard - Does this count for Orders too? Probably not since that's what VOX's are for, but worth a shot...
Aaaand screw it; since I'm here I might as well type out the list that I made last night for my roommate and I's upcoming AoBR SM vs. IG. I just bought a Valkyrie because they looked so damn cool and Rolling Thunder just made them sound too badass not to pick up, so I obviously really wanted to field that (thus why my 'mate isn't playing Orks - he didn't even want to give me the opportunity to drop those pie plates on him...plus it's only the DeaffCoptaz Rokkit Launchaz that can penetrate my armor). Since he had to be stuck with a list he didn't make, I decided to stick with WYSIWYG, and since I'm still pulling my hodgepodge models out of the dust there's not all that much coherency. Anyway, here goes:
CCS==Commander w/ PP + 2 plasma rifles + medic + regimental standard (I know it's silly, but I kind of wanted to stay forward and on the board and was trying to be fluffy)
PCS==Autocannon + Grenade Launcher
PS1==Missile + Grenade Launcher
PS2==Flamer
HWS==3x Missile Launchers
VS1==2x Melta + Sgt. w/ PP
Valkyrie==stock
585pts
Plan is to Roll out some thunder with the Valk and the Vets supported by the HWS, run PS2 into a good cover/speedbump and keep the PCS 12" behind them, but within range of the other squads too, and have my remaining squads hold down a flank somewhere
I probably won't change it all that much, since I'm intentionally making it an all-around list instead of a MEQ-killer list so as to not stomp him, but I would love some comments & criticism, as it's always great to see other commanders' strategies.
