(If TLDR then pick a paragraph and ignore the waffle)
I bought the missionary with the plasma gun model from GW since some of you guys have posted some rather cool looking paint jobs of him (did Trooper's have the glowy radioactive skeleton relic?) and sadly GW sent me one without the backpack on it. I contacted them about this and they sent me a new one with no complaints and didn't even ask for the old one back (which was nice of them, although I would rather they just improve their quality control).
So after aquiring two of these guys I actually opened the codex and realised that there are no wargear options for giving this guy a plasma gun D:
What do you guys think I should do? Chop one up for conversion and leave the other one in the blister in case plasma gun missionaries make a comeback?
Any suggestions on how to convert him? My first idea is hardly more WYSIWYG: I watched Judge Dredd the other day and this guy kind of reminds me of the senior Judge who retires, if only he had a shotgun.
This might also be a great time to break out the greenstuff and learn how to use it properly.
Oh, and are there any other armies that might end up fielding him in with the plasma?

The sisters have an HQ choice ecclesiarchy confessor - 3 wounds
He costs the same as an HWS of 3 autocannon teams and the plasma gun costs the same as it does for standard infantry squads.
Also the GK codex might have them as Inq henchmen - I'll check later.

Thanks Chemin, I would like to buy some more Sisters, if they ever release plastics, that said I can imagine that they would update the codex again by that point, but I did ask so thank you.

The problem is I can't see the model properly on the GW site, so I can't tell if its convertable or not. If you can't cut through it then come and visit me some weekend (I'm usually not working sunday) and I'll chop the plasma off for you.
The question is what to replace it with?
An eviscerator ? A huge shotgun?
Plasma guns are huge, so it could involve a bit of sculpting later.

If think I can handle it and I'd like the practice but I should come visit you at some point, for BATTLE!

Indeed! My realm of battle is only painted brown and my scenery is unpainted, but that's irrelevant. Just let me know in advance if and when

At some point somehow it was possible to get a priest with a plasma gun in an IG list... maybe it was allies or the old codex, I can't remember which. Anyway, it may not be that pretty...but here is my conversion. All I used was a pair of sharp wire clippers, and as I recall it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

i know it's probably not what you want but it's the easiest way to do it.
Just use him as a plasma trooper? anyone asks he's a volunteer that's got the stats of a normal vet. his faith means he will shrug off many wounds so he doesnt wear much armour. Just my idea cuz I think it's a cool model and not worth converting and risk making a mess.
That is a nice conversion Ymmot, where's the sword from?

I think it was the charging commissar with powersword and plasma pistol, the double edged chainsword was a nice little extra surprise.

Brill conversion, Ymmot. The GKs cannot take a priestly type character with a plasma gun, so it's only the sisters of battle codex. HQ choice.. :s At least he has 3 wounds. Don't roll three 1s, followed by three 1s on the rosarius save... :/ I watched Judge Dredd the other day and this guy kind of reminds me of the senior Judge who retires, if only he had a shotgun. Wait! The missionary reminds you of Max Von Sydow? Didn't Ymmot draw a pic of him?

Yes, Max Von Sydow as Chief Judge Fargo, when he goes out into the Cursed Earth with his book of Law and a shotgun and those brown robes. I imagine that if he didn't get killed off then he would have turned into that missionary.
Also yes I will come up at some point if a weekend works best for you then I'll arrange a day off. Normally my free days are Tuesday to Thursday.

Ah yes, mine was the one with the glowing bones in the reliquary; I stole the idea from my friend, who stole it from someone he worked with at GW. I'd say that Ymmot's conversion is the best one I have seen of the stock miniature ever.

I thought he was essentially the spitting image of Dennis Hopper in Waterworld. I think the sculpt was done around the same time as the movie, could be wrong. For what it is worth, here is my version. I took a jeweler's saw to it, taking off the plasma gun. From there I trimmed with an exacto and file. I added a IG tank sprue arm to him. I hid the jagged areas from the cutting with pouches. I also used a stowage pack from the vehicle sprue.

Nice work, Yeti. You're right - it's Dennis Hopper! He was a great actor.

"Missionary with a plasma gun" Brings all kinds of bad images into my head. Its definately not were you want to get plasma burns..... I imagine you could just lop the gun off at the wrist and add any other manner of guns (adding hand on as well). As mentioned, a jewellers saw/dremel would have it off in a jiffy
