Hey there comrades! I am haveing some issues with may Swiss inspired feudal guard. Now I know quite about the middle age swiss.
They were some of the best and fought for just about every one but mostly France, they used pikes and halberds but a few were trained in the use of crossbows and crude firearms.
Now pikes are of cource out of the question as they are too large but I feel short hafted halberds are a good choice and they and be slung over the sholder maybe but anyway they would also make good power weapons. Lasguns are longer and use sword bayonets.
Now what I want to know is what colours, models and heavy weapons/Sweapons should I use and how I can Middle age 'em.

a quick google image search for 'swiss medievil' showed lots of soldiers wearing white , red and silver breastplates.
so im thinking, red jackets, white trousers, black boots, silver armour, silver weapons.
as for possible hvy weapons teams, i say mortars mainly because they are the oldest style of weapon out of all the types of heavy weapons... mortars were seen on the battlefiled long before other styles of arty. plus mortars are ace, fighting on mountainous terrain like where the swiss come from cos of the indirect fire.

handcannons as plasma guns? basicly just a lage tube with a touch hole lol. kinda midway by looks between a cannon and a matchlock.
culverins as auto-cannon/lascannons
organ guns as bolters
missile launchers use old fashioned rockets like the chinese types, they did make their way in to europe...
now for a melta gun i don't know... maybe a different type of amo for a cannon? but most of the types i know didnt come round till the 1700s :/

Perhaps using empire handguns but attaching sword bayonets would create a 'pike musket.' I think halberds were used to defend the standards, as well as longswords, maybe halberd=power fist, sword=power weapon.
You could include crossbowmen as counts as penal legion (skirmishers) or veterans with shotguns, (trying to find a way they don't clash with musket/arquebus armed troops. The guys have already suggested good alternatives to heavy weapons, or you could go Kreig and use weapons emplacements.
The trick will be getting the balance between 40k and medieval switzerland. An easy way to make the models would be to base them armound fantasy empire kits, but I would mix in some cadian bits, as well as a few lasguns, holstered pistols etc to keep them in the 40k universe.
Good luck with this sir.

shotguns = blunderbus! would say the 7 barrel volley gun but that'd be imposible to convert and also is a female dog to carry and reload lol.

It's perfectly OK to use normal 40k weapons without making them look archaic. It's all down to you.
Although you could do a Steamtank = Leman Russ, with a bit of converting.
