Is it a tank? Is it a plane? No, it's my soon to be Hydra Flak Truck. Inspired by the works of Dave Taylor and AJ (Of AJ miniatures): Also appearing is my version of Gunnery Sergeant Harker. His name and weapons should give you a good hint to as rom where I got the inspiration: and (Yes, I know that the seventh barrel in the middle wouldn't actually be able to fire. Now google "Nock volley gun" and you'll find out why it's there.)

nice! love the conversion.
Oh also I've held the volley gun from the show, it's about as heavy as a mini gun lol.

Thanks for the nice comments. Harper is made from catachans legs, arms and head with a cadian torso. I put some plasticard between the torso and legs and under his shoes to add some height to him. He's noticably bigger than normal guardsmen. His gun is made from an ork shoota and a pair of Tau burst cannons. The sword bayonet is an old Grey Hunters combat knife and is grenades (which can't really be seen) are from the kroot sprue. Now more Hydra goodness. I can't decide if I should put some dozer blades on; give it something smaller; or just keep the front clean. Also I'm thinking about using the Aegis defense shields as gun shields (cutting them at the red line). They seem a bit big so I might build some out of plasticard instead. What do you guys think?

I prefer the dozer blade, and think you should plasticard the sides, the Aegis look cool but also too bulky, as you mentioned. The only thing I don't like about this project is the Ork turret: Could you nick one from a chimera top or similar? It looks 'primative' in my opinion and detracts from your careful plasticard-ing

Since AJ has been so kind as to post a tutorial on his blog (and it also looks way better) I've decided to go with a plasticard gunshield.
As for the turret I'm keeping the original. As you can see from pictures on both AJ's and Dave Taylor's sites it looks really good once you get the whole thing together. Besides, I also want that semi-primitive look which is why I also kept the original plating in the front of the cab.
Work will continue during the weekend, pictures will be posted.

Are you an ork? Only Orks like half-trakks. Oh right. I like the work you've done and genius Harker. Really cool assault cannon. Or should I say BURST CANNON!

I see you found my Hydra halftrack conversion in your digging around. Dave Taylor's pattern really is well done.
So the question is, are you going to actually make yours into a half track or leave it as a truck? As far as bits go, the track section from the Ork Battlewagon kit works rather well, this is what I did for my other half tracks.

I'm keeping it a truck. For some reason I just prefer the looks of a truck more than a half-track. Besides, it also suits my guardsmen better. Also I really like the looks of the balloon tires.
Unfortunately I haven't been able to work on it during the weekend but hopefully I'll get some time next week to finish it.

I've got some work done during the weekend but unfortunately no pictures this time. Hopefully there will be some on Tuesday. Got some details done and I have some ideas for back of the truck (the part that isn't covered by the gun platform). Then I just need to cover it in gubbinz and it will be ready for the paint shop. Not really, mine's a truck, Bob's a half-track. And as you can see from the above posts (it's right there in the text), both I and Bob were inspired by Dave Taylors Chimera/War Trukk conversion.

Good title for your project then. ;D Haha! Good point. ;D I named it before I made the final decision to keep it a truck. Also as a shout-out to AJ who gave me the inspiration (and the templates) to the gun platform. His Hydra is a half-track, hence the name.

I've been busy with school and stuff so I haven't had time to work on this one for a while. Anywho, here's an update. The front half is basically done, I just need to finish the HB gunner. Different angle: The back part of the gun platform isn't finished yet and I need to build a gunner, a loader and a chair for the gunner. The actual flatbed will get some gubbins as well, including a radio. Front view of the gun shield. If all goes as planned I will hopefully finish the actual vehicle this week. That includes making a pair of sideskirts that will cover the wheels about halfway down and will hopefully give the truck a more armoured look.
