I was thinking of painting my Executioner's Plasma Cannon pink or violet, but I noticed that the tank on GW's website is just plain metal. Is it not supposed to be colored like other plasma weaponry? I notice the FW one is just metal-colored too. I wish there was a fluff reference about this thing.

I always think everyone should do what they want, no need to follow anything GW or Forge World put up, personally I think glowing plasma has a much nicer effect than bare metal, but its entirely up to you.

I apint mine blue, as I always thought of them as such. I have seen purple before, and green. I think it's a personal choice thing, and metal is clearly the most boring choice... I worked up from dark blue to white over about 7 layers, although it could be done in 3 or 4. Make each 'band' of colour a bit thinner than the last, and you should get a nice 'glow'. With purple, I'd start with warlock purple and just add a bit of white in I'm painting the 'magnetic accelerator coils' on my executioners at the moment, they'll be in my painting thread in a few days if you want to have a peek

I love my Executioner model so much... I think I might make room for two in 2000 points (it is fully kitted at 245 points, mwhahaha!).
I would absolutely love to see how you have painted your executioner.
When you say "dark blue to white over about 7 layers", you mean that you just kept getting shallower and shallower with the next layers until just the tops of the ridges are just white? It is a pretty mild/small looking texture to begin with... can't imagine doing 7 layers! I was thinking like 3...

IIRC the accelerator coils on a plasma weapon only changes colour when it heats up. So a bare metal plasma gun would probably be turned off or in standby mode. Depending on the temperature of the coils it would have different colours. What colour it should have at what temperature is something far above my paygrade though. I'm a lawyer, not a scientist.

Yes, this is probably true I wouldn't sit around with mine 'switched off' though it'd be asking for trouble. "Xenos, on the ridge! FIRE!" "Yes sir, give me five minutes while she warms up...!" I suppose it'd be similar to what metals burn which colours (that could provide some cool inspiration anyway!) tobacco: Yes it does get a bit silly painting a tiny white stripe with a fine detail brush...

I paint mine pure white, nothing says brighter than the sun than a pure white flame. Evidence.
A white flame is hotter than a blue flame because a white flame has more oxygen, so it has more energy to create extra heat.

While glowing effects on the plasma coils do look nice, I've always thought they are kind of silly, so I just paint mine in a metallic color. No sense in having the glow give away your position!

I just use Dwarf bronze, something like copper discs controlling the plasma flow or something:

I always paint all my plasma weapons' LMA coils copper; like a Tesla coil. With heavy charring around the muzzle vents, but at the end of the day its down to personal preference

A white flame is hotter than a blue flame because a white flame has more oxygen, so it has more energy to create extra heat. Well, no. Oxygen is fairly lacking in energy. Oxygen isn't the fuel, it's the thing that causes the fuel to burn. And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

I paint my coils in many different colours, depending on how it will go with the colour scheme of the model in question. So my Ultras have green coils, my Guard have metallic ones and the Inquisitorial minis I'm in the process of painting have blue ones. I justify it by assuming the exact manufacture, material used ect varies from world to world.

Mine's blue with gunmetal coils, but that's just because I have strict rules in my head that plasma is always blue, lasers are red and so on...
