Right, I've seen them in the codex and I've seen them much mentioned about around here. I was just wondering, after having searched the GW site and forgeworld, I've only seen the £43 forgeworld version: www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Imperial_Guard_Tanks/IMPERIAL-GRIFFON-HEAVY-MORTAR-CARRIER.htmlNow, obviously, I doubt every man and his dog will go out and purchase a FW model, so I was wondering what you guys do for griffons? I'm guessing chimera chassis with odds and ends added on? I'm just curious as I might consider creating one, and I wasn't sure if any of you had any advice on the matter. Again, all responses will be much appreciated Nothus

You could try looking on eBay and see if you can find the old original metal/plastic hybrid kit that GW used to sell years ago. Or wait a few months--there are rumblings that GW might be releasing an all plastic kit if I've heard correctly.

Or wait a few months--there are rumblings that GW might be releasing an all plastic kit if I've heard correctly. I do certainly hope that is the case. Anyway, a common conversion I have heard of is to cut down a basilisk barrel to about the right size and reshape the gunshield a bit. Personally not a fan, but to each their own.

The FW model is very nice but I'm put off because if I wanted to field a unit and have them look the same then it would be £129.

Three!? What have you been doing (or not as the case may be) with them all?! I'd get on it although I feel that Colonelnuthus should get dibs

well a friend of mine bought them years ago to use as ork lobbas (literally just the actual mortar, and the two side pieces) I inherited his ork army when he moved away, so I have three mortars... Not a fan of the griffon myself, so I will give them to people who want to make griffons

Those are very interesting conversions. I shall have to give something like that a try. *Angry shakes fist at commissarbob* Shame on you for giving me excuses to buy a chimera AND a Leman-Russ!
Kirsten, if the other two don't nab those griffon mortars, I would love to see if we can work something out.

Thanks. I had a need for some enclosed mortar carriers and I did not want to pay the Forgeworld prices, so that is the solution I came up with.

anyone who wants a mortar PM me over the next four days or so, I wont be able to post anything until wednesday anyway, so if three people PM me I will send one each, if it is fewer, you will have to battle to the death for the extra

Woah, missed the responses. Thanks guys (and gals?) for the ideas, I really like your conversion Commissarbob, it's more the way I'd imagined a griffon to be as well.
I'll pass on the mortars though, thanks for the offer Kirsten, but I've currently got a command squad, two squads of infantry, a LR and couple of commissars to get finished. I enjoy building too much, so end up with a massive paint back log, so I think the Griffon project may have to be deferred for a while. But I would be interested in seeing what you guys end up creating within your plastic, gluey, putty and frantic forges!
Thanks again Nothus
