Well it's been a while since I've shown my face on here, so I thought it's time to upload something. I have always refused to do a Chaos Army, purely because I feel it's impossible to paint and model Chaos in a way that I feel fully presents it well. I have always imagined Chaos to emit an aura. And then the Space Marine Game was released, and I almost died. Their portrayal of Chaos, with the cool blue/purple/red/pink warp portals and the whole atmosphere change was, in my head, spot on. It was everything I wanted to see from Chaos, but I still found it hard to find a way to paint and model it.....until now. In a very quick 2 minute trial, I decided to see if I could make the gaps in a Space Marines armour 'glow', something I've always thought would happen with Chaos Marines. So with a limited experience of painting OSL, I set about doing it, and came up with this......... There is very poor lighting here at the moment (stupid thunderstorm) so I played with the contrast to try and get a better picture...... But I'm sure you get the idea. Now I know these aren't Chaos SM legs, but it still shows my idea. I'm now going to continue practicing and hopefully this will lead into something proper, until then, input please!! Cosmic

This is a pretty nifty plan Cosmic. I wonder what the whole model would look like. Perhaps you could even give us a thread on tips and tricks for painting glowing stuff.

I've seen some Warmachine Cryx models done to a high standard with this approach, using greens and yellows. Also, somebody did some Warmachine Retribution models that way too, in reds like yours... and that looked menacing. When done well, the effect is striking. I think you'll pull it off well.

Thanks everyone If people are interested I might try and do a weekly Tutorial, covering different techniques of varying things? Now onto the marine...... 'I wouldn't like to meet him in a dark alley' Obviously that's an edited pic, but the only propblem with a glow effect is that it's very hard to photograph, since the radiant light ruins the effect, but here'a crappy picture showing my sloppy handiwork....

Totally makes me think of someone infused with a demon and then encased within power armor. It is things like this that make me carry around a Meltagun with me at all times, actually no not good enough, a squad of Meltaguns should suffice.
I have seen pictures of Space Marines using LEDs to add a glow effect to their eyes and whatnot but with this method mastered..who needs em? LEDs are limited to pretty much just the eyes anyway, THIS is awesome.

DOUBLE POST HERESY!!!! Thats very cool cosmic, reminds me of a (much much better) version of the lava I tried on game board. An inspired idea to do it on a mini in that way though I'd welcome any kind of tutorial thingy, as I'm always up for learning new things or improving on stuff I know already I think the red glow would look awesome on some Khorne Bezerkers....

'I wouldn't like to meet him in a dark alley' Don't worry, his glow will soon make that alley bright!
