Well I went into my local GW store last weekend to pick up a game.
This was the first game I have ever played with my IG army and the first tabletop game I have played in 4+ years. I didn’t expect much, it was more a refresh and crash course on the rules and how my units performed on the table vs on paper. Here we go…
Approx. 900-950points a piece. Imperial Guard vs Chaos Daemons
Guard
CCS vox, Lascannon, Medic, cloaks
PCS x2Flamers, plasma pistol, power-wep
Platoon 3 squads, 3vox,2 Auto cannons
Vets with x3 GL, power fist
5 Ratlings
Stormtroopers with GL and Flamer
LRBT with lascannon and Hbolters
Daemons
(Didn’t help that I know nothing about Daemons and all his models weren’t painted)
Herald on Juggernaught
2 Squads of flamers
Squad of pink horrors with a changeling
Pack of hounds with a hero
10 bloodletters
Soul Grinder
We were playing Annialation Killpoints to keep things simple. I deploy in my zone and he stays in the warp.(Damn Chaos)
I was set up with my sniper, CCS, and 1 squad in a fortress, 1 squad and PCS on the left flank with last squad and vet squad on the right flank. Stormies and tank in reserves.
Turn 1
I had first turn and did nothing because he isn’t even on the board yet.
He deploys his pink horrors/ changeling and hounds across from my left flank partially behind a building, 1 squad of flamers across from my right flank and his Herald further behind his lines. Herald advances up the right and moves up his hounds.
His changeling mind controls my PCS and flames one of my whole 10 man squads and roasts them all.
Pink horrors take pot shots at my fortress but nothing serious. His flamers on my right flank roast up ¾ of my other autocannon squad but they hold their ground.
Turn 2
I roll reserves, Storms come in but Tanks is still out. I deep strike the troopers behind the Pink Horrors, the troopers scatter and drop into a building and are all killed in the failed insertion. I fire my lascannon at his HQ but miss. I FRFSRF and flame the hounds and kill 3. I shoot his pink horrors from my units in the fortress and only kill about 3. I FRFSRF at the flamers with my collapsing right flank and kill 2 flamers. My snipers hit their marks and finish off the hounds.
His turn, his second wave comes in, his bloodletters on my far left flank, his soulgrinder about mid field and second squad of flamers on the right side of the board.
He advances most of his forces on my left and right flank.
Soulgrinder shoots at my CCS, missed one and makes a few wounds but my medic saves his fellow troopers. His pink horrors shoot my PCS to death, only a lone lieutenant stands his ground. On the right flank 1 flamer uses his vile breath to kill off the rest of my autocannon squad and fry a few veterans. His HQ lobs a skull at my veterans but he misses.
Turn 3
My tank arrives! I place him on my collapsing right flank to support my veterans.
My tank fires a shot at the soulgrinder, the blast casuses a crew shaken but my opponent told me Chaos Daemons are not effected my crew shaken/stunned. The blast hits the HQ as well but he makes his save. My snippers open fire on his HQ but the shots bounce off daemon armor. What is left of my veterans fire into the vile flamers and manage to kill one. My CCS stuns the soulgrinder but does nothing. A few more pink horrors fall to my squad in the fortress, at the same time my heroic platoon commander shoots the head clean off of a horror with his plasma pistol.
The deamon horrors and soul grinder pour firepower into the fortress killing several snipers and leaving only a lonely vox caster alive, but he hold firm! The medic in my CCS saving 3 more of his allies from death. The flamers consume the veterans in fiery death as the HQ and soul grinder advance towards the battle tank. The Platoon commander is sliced to bits by the bloodletters.
Turn 4
Things are looking grim for the Guard, they only have 8 guardsmen, hold up in the fortress and a tank on the far right flank. The tank fire his cannon into the face of the soulgrinder, it bounces off but the shrapnel causes a successful wound on the near by HQ! The lascannon stuns the soul grinder….. again.
My rag tag survivors manage to ad one more wound to the flamers now inside the fortress. CCS lascannon missed.
His horrors and flamers send my remaining 1 man squad and 2 snipers in the after life. The medic at this point has been promoted to the surgeon general by keeping his entire quad alive. His HQ and soul grinder assault my tank immobilizing it and ripping off the tturret in hand to hand combat.
Turn 5
At this point it was over but we just wanted to see if I could kill is HQ or soul grinder.
My tank manages to take destroy a weapon off the soul grinder with his LC.
In one last attempt my CCS las cannon blows the soul grinder to pieces, wounding the HQ but is saved.
We called it after that, he slaughtered me next turn anyway. Sorry for the long story but it was a great learning experience for me. I took a 101 class in Chaos Daemons too. Feel free to Discuss critique.
