So Crimbo came and went, and now is the long slog from winter to summer..
What better to keep my spirits up then planning what to get in May when I become another year older...
I'm torn between which Malcador Variant to get... my personal favourite is either the Defender or the Minotaur..
What do you think?

I personally like the Defender. I just think that it looks awesome. The Infernus is probably the better buy game wise, but looks wise, to me the Defender wins it.

I ran out of time to write earlier, and didn't get to post some info that might be of use to the decision...
I'd still like to see people vote for the Malcador they prefer most, but since I am sort of trying to decide and hoping to get a bit of steerage from you, you'll needed to be making informed decisions.
ie, you need to know what tanks I have!
6 Chimera 3 LRBT 2 Demolisher 1 Punisher 3 Basalisk 1 Shadowsword 1 Infernus
I like the idea of a 2nd Infernus, its such a cool model and awesome on the table, as I previously mentioned, I like the Defender (for rugged pre-LRBT archaic tech and the fact it looks like a standard version from which the Infernus is derived, while the Minotaur offers twin barrelled awesomeness (though less incentive since it's role is well met by the 3 Basalisk).
Would 2 Infernus be overkill... hmmm
(cheers all for posts so far!)

I've always loved the image of a Minotuar brining a fortress wall crashing down and levelling cities bit by bit. It always feels very Guardesque to me.

Defender. You have only two demolishers so the defender could be the tip of your line breaking force. You said it was your favourite too...

6 Chimera 3 LRBT 2 Demolisher 1 Punisher 3 Basalisk 1 Shadowsword 1 Infernus Hmnn.. I would have said the Valdor Tank Hunter, but as you already have a shadowsword it seems a bit too much. Two Infernus is a shame unless you got waves of money. Malcador with Battle Cannon: There you already have three LRBT. Malcador Defender: Already got two demolishers and one punisher. Minotaur: Already have three basilisk. That leaves you with the Malcador Annihilator, but to be honest I think it looks a bit wimpy. It really depends on what your tactic is. The Infernus and Minotaur does two complete different things and are two different places on the battlefield.

Malcador Defender: Already got two demolishers and one punisher. This is the Guard. If you don't have three of something it hardly counts.

I have always found the Malcador Defender lacking sure it has more anti infantry fire power than the annihilator but it never seems to be able to bring all its weapons to bear. Yes, it might sound cool having up to 7 heavy bolters and a demolisher cannon but thanks to the weapon arc's the potential firepower it will bring to an enemy unit is severely limited forcing you to split your firepower to multiple enemies.
At least with the annihilator and correct placement you can rain 2 lascannon rounds and a demolish shell to ultimately ruin a vehicles day, with the last round taking a potshot into another high valued target.

.. a tank that has a rear facing weapon, along with 3 on either side and 2 at the front is nearly always going to have to split its fire unless it is completely surrounded by a horde like a green tide or platoon of 50 guardsmen!
this is not a situation in which a tank should find itself... but as it a super heavy it can split its fire legally, and while this isn't as effective at shooting all the same unit, it does allow it to fire all its weapons. (though the rear facing weapon isn't going to be fired that often even with this in mind!).
I need to look up the stats and points costs and then compare - is it okay to post points costs if they are extremely approximate and vague...? (eg: if I list them in order of cost from cheapest to most expensive?).

I'm pretty sure that's fine, I think exact unit and upgrage squads are the real concern.

I'm actually starting to favour the annihilator more. I love my lascannon demolishers, and this seems to be a super version of that. With bonus sponsons.

I have three regular Malcadors and they suck badly. I choose any one besides it.

Since we have been introduced to Minuatures Hobby this has made the choice a little easier... www.miniatureshobby.com/forge-world-imperial-guard-c-46_73.htmlI have further reduced my choice so there is only the Infernus or Tank Hunter to choose from. I still dilema though, as I do need more anti-super-heavy in the imperium. The Orks have around 6 super-heavies and this makes tough going for the guard and marines, and while there are a number of anti-tank squads and vehicles, I fear there is not enough to bring all the behemoths down in time. Yet at BS3 the Valdor seems a little risky, it does not have AP1 or Destroyer so isn't that great for tank hunting really. It is also more likely to explode amongst my own lines as it is a sniper tank with the potential to self destruct. The Infernus does feel like the more superior tank... there will be no shortage of Ork Hordes where it fights and at S7 it can bring the hurt to medium armour too like Kans and Dreads... and as a forward flamey tank, if when it goes kaboom it will hopefully be surrounded by greenskin when it does. Hmm .. maybe there isn't a dilema after all.. I intend to purchase in the next day or two, so any last thoughts would be great. ... the other option is to get a Kill Bursta tank for my Orks as they are about 500 points short in a 15,000 a side apoc game...

Do Macharius tanks count? I don't know if there are any other open topped super heavies, but it is definitely a fun tank.
