ok... so im in need of a big project... ive seen cosmics and 3ff3cts tiotans and im thinking... 'i want a large showpiece' sadly i think that owning a titan is just not within the 'feel' of my army, and after seeing the maurauder on forgeworld... and knowing i cant afford one because im cheap... ive decided to make a super bomber for my army. so where do i start... and what budget will i have on this project? well... ive budgeted £100 for this project... and i reckon bulding it will cost half that. my local games shop had a Revell 1/48 B-17f 'memphis belle' in stock for £26.. after inspecting the contents i realised that this was the perfect shell for this project without a doubt. for me, i wanted something like either... B17 B52 stratofortress B1 b lancer BSA TSR2 AVRO vulcan avro lancaster quite a mixture of cold war and ww2 bombers that i thought could be converted to fit the style of bomber im looking for... but the b17 for the price i found it ... well ... i couldnt say no. after getting the kit out and giving it a good inspection... ive realised why the kit was so cheap considering the size... its crap.. nothing fits right and i would be very disapointed if i wasnt going to butcher it and if i wanted it as a propper model... that in mind i do belive that for the shell alone , its the perfect platform for some majot plasicard reworking... the b17 is a very rounded and curvy aircraft...and to fit with the look , i plan on getting rid of the major rounded points like the wing tips and most of the tubular fuselage... i will replace the proppellers with large self made turbine jet engines. the cockpit will retain the same shape of the original aircraft but be increased in overall size and the nose gunner will have a rtedesigned 360 degree ball shaped twin autocannon turret. as with most of my projects i dont sketch out an idea... i rely on ideas stuck in my head and build it up as i see fit, as my brain may think of better ideas before i fully commit to one way of doing things.. all i know now is that it will look heavily armoured... will have lots of weaponary...will have a 2' foot high flying base... and will be the largest 40k flyer model you will have seen yet on the battlefield heres a size comparison to an average sized human. any ideas will be welcome... the more inspiration i have the better...

Haha! Its HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! Glad to be of inspiration/intimidation ;D My input would be to get some getail on it, rivets, skulls, aquilas etc. And some scary guns Are you going to custom rules this thing? If so having a mad 'big bomb' could be a good way to go, or a multiple munitions drop using the apoc barrage template thing (4 leaf clover) might be interesting. I'm certain you'll do it justice though, and respect for doing something so crazy!

Nice idea on the superbomber!! Should keep you busy for a little while Are you going to make man operated guns? Or will it be automatic? Otherwise may i suggest a razorback turret for the gunmount above the cockpit. It will give it a 40k feel all around. (if it fits though) You could always use a deathstrike missile and use it as a nuclear bomber too. You would probably need to widen and lengthen the bomb compartiment i guess, but also have the potential to call it enola gay Looking forward to seeing it. PS: a punisher main weapon would also be great as a nose mount

PS: a punisher main weapon would also be great as a nose mount i think the guns should be remote operated it would fit with most of my ground vehicles with being remote operated turrets... im not sure on the massive bomb idea even though that sounds totally cool... i do already have plans to make the bomb bay realistic and also cover most of the wings... i how to make it all open too hopefuly... i have named it the 'showstopper' already and have plans for a sexy chick painted on the nose like the bombers from ww2...

How about using the missiles from the manticore as weapons on the wings, or even inside the bomb bay. I think to keep it with the 40k feel, it needs to have lots of straight edges and corners, unlike WWII and cold war aircraft which where very rounded. Could you not butcher a valk for parts like the tail fin etc? Good work and keep the wip pictures coming! Detailed wip pictures so I can copy... Erm... Get ideas

Get ideas haha... one step ahead of you mate... i have 4 unwanted manicore missles sitting right in front of me, i plan on having them inside of the openable bomb bay under the jet engines. so far ive clipped the wings to remove the curves, also adding aerofins to the wing tips... as well as remodeling the way the wings fit to the body... it will be evident whats going on in photos which will be coming soon... and i dont plan on butchering any valkeryes to make this... im set to a budget and unless i can find certain parts in bitz websites then im just gonna make it myself from the massive stack of plasticard i 'borrowwed' from work.... literally have a pallet of plasticard lol... sadly there wont be 'detailed' wip of this project... its mostly cutting plates and adding them to the wings etc to bulk the thing up...

I'm interested to see how this goes as I got a C17 model from Argos for about £7.50.. and am going to be making it into a Big Bomma for my Orks (I posted an image of the C17 on the 'good looking stormraven' thread I did last month).
I'll be looking to see how you make your flying stand and how you '40k' something recognisable from the 20th century.
Good luck with the project!

oh hell yeah... love that...shes even wearing ACU... though im gonna make sure theres a hell of alot more tit on the doll painted on the side of the bomber... that reminds me though... must leave a nice big blank space on the side for that...
@ treadiculous... trust me... this thing is going to fit right in with the 40k look... but hopefully still retain the old school bomber look of the original..
@ kennyjapan... yup its so bad... i used to make lots of airplanes as a kid and this is by far the worst kit i have put together...

Oooh! I have an idea! You could give it to me when you're done! Just kidding, obviously. Maybe you could add twin-linked multilaser side turrets that are used by a unit inside the craft? Obviously you'd need a transport capacity for that. Hell, maybe one of the options in the bomb loadout could be a Guard drop pod? Heavy version can drop up to thirty models (small platoon dropper) while a light version can only drop up to 12. Then again, I suppose it's meant to be a dedicated bomber, but a bit of flexibility in the loadouts gives it unpredictability, your enemies won't know what hit them! Oh, one final idea: Stop making me want to build one of my own.

Very nice, looking forward to see this project move along. You should really take some pictures doing your progress and post them here. In respond we will cheer you and encourage you to finish it. I think I would have done a 1/35 scale instead, but it might get hard to get such a huge airplane in that size. And thanks for the warning on Revell. Good luck and I can't wait to see more.

well actually i have not done very much to it considering how long ive had it sitting next to my desk... up till now ive been gathering materials for it... found some great turbine fans to use for the main engines from zinge industries...
im looking at starting the darksiders next which will include all the air assualt force which will have the showstopper as a central model.
along with 3 different versions of the valk model.... i have 3 valks sitting next to me in the boxes... with these i plan to make 2 vultures and 1 'spectre' style air artillery styled aircraft... along with 3 sm scout landspeeder storms to act like 'little birds'
i will definitly have some new pictures to post on this by the weekend.
