Hi all, so I've just watched warhorse (great film btw) and there was something gloriously heroic yet tactically naive with the cavalry charge early on in the film. These two elements go hand in hand with the IG and so I now want to have some rough riders in my army. The problem is, I'm not too sure how to go about it and wanted some advise.
My force is mainly cadian and mordian with a small amount of kaledon hunters and ogryns to provide the muscle. I'm thinking of basing them around Cadians as I have plenty of spare bitz there.
I was just wondering what would be the best mount and best legs to use?
I'm probably going to use the forlong hope rules in IA7 as well.

...the irony of this is killing me.
I have a Cadian/Mordian force and have recently begun looking into rough riders. In fact, my two boxes of Empire pistolier horsemen showed up in the mail just today.
Anyways, I plan on using cadian bodies, cadian arms, and the empire legs and helmets (because I think they add tramendously to the look of horsemen). The empire legs don't look that bad really, just paint the whole leg a solid color, or put green stuff to cover up the armor.
You can't go wrong with empire pistoliers though. I looked through every factions range and found them the most suitable. They even come with capes if you want that look!

I used Saurus and Dark Elf cold ones as mounts for my Rough Riders. I thought it made them tougher and gave them a "from another planet look". A horse charge in 40K ala WWI Warhorse (great movie, I agree) seems suicidal because of the vulnerable nature of the mount. But put the same riders on a tough as nails looking lizard thing and you have something more believable.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I decided on the empire pistolier horses. I really like the cold ones riders too, I will probably use them for my traitor guard list. I've included 2 photos of my sample rough rider below. Sorry for the bad quality of the photos, I dip my miniatures and always find that the flash never does them justice.

Looking good.
Just a tip for photographing heavily dipped miniatures: Don't hold the camera so close to the model. Keep the distance and don't zoom too much. If you look at the first picture the Ogryn looks much better than the rider.
Also, I would give them a sidearm, either a laspistol or some kind of CCW.
