Dissappointment

Ok, so my West Wind british paras with berets and gasmasks arrived yesterday. And my first impression are that they're awful. The ones without gasmasks are cool, as are the british helmets with gasmasks, but these look like they have pancakes sitting on top of their heads. I've found a photo online:

What do you guys think? Rescuable with greenstuff?

Or failing that, it's start again with a new idea for my veterans and stormies (everything else in the army has PI/WW gasmasks already). Convert to Tam o'Shanter/Balmoral, plus VL kilted legs? That could be pretty awesome actually, although I wouldn't look forward to painting tartan...

Definitely rescueable with Greenstuff, just bulk the hat out a little

I think it needs "spreading" really. It just looks like it's sitting on top, not around the head. I'm very, very new to GS but it'll be a fun start. Someone lend me a camera and I'll do a plog! :-P
Now those highlander sets are looking very good though...

It's pretty easy to do from what I've seen, make a blob and push it onto the head is the general jist of it. I'm sure if you do a few 'tests' on some spare plastic heads you'll be able to make great berets in no time

Sorry - misunderstanding perhaps - are you saying I would be best filing off the berets they already have and starting again?

No need really, that would just be extra effort, just Greenstuff OVER the original hat

That's what I thought - making a blob and pushing it on would just make the berets taller I'd have though.
It looks like the hat would need extending over the head and given a proper band/rim that's holding it on. Like a crescent shaped bit.
