Yo! So I've been tinkering on this project here and there for a while, I got inspired byu the Forge World Corsairs, making me realise I wanted to field Pirates in 40k. I sort of struggled to make a decent army out of the eldar and dark eldar army lists, and then AI11 was released, with a Corsair Army List! Yay. The Forge World Corsair models didn't do it for me, and while I appreciate that FW recreated imagry from old art work of Eldar Corsairs, I wanted something that looked a bit more... hmm... Piratey. So.. This is the first one to be put together, there's going to be around 30 in total in my 1.5k army and I really want to make each an individual character with a presence and 'feel' all of their own. It'll take lots of work but I'm trying to switch from factory line painting to making detail and pattern work. So, here you go: Let me know your thoughts!

They look cool. Now I want to see them painted.

I'm not brilliant with the fluff, so could you explain the claw? Or is it just that you fancied an aquatic 'pirates of the carribean' vibe to the model?
I am in no way criticising it, it is amazing! I'll have to invest in some daemonette heads at some point as it really works.

3ff3ct - I got to thinking how eldar created Slaanesh, and how some Eldar are Dark eldar, some corsairs, and some plain eldar.. what happened to those that follow(ed) slaanesh? The Claws will represent power weapons. I need to switch the pistol for a fusion pistol but haven't quite worked out what weapon I will use as a proxy: I'm considering using bright lance's as fusion guns, and Starcannons as flamers on other models since I like the idea of infantry holding massive weapons.. (this is 40k after all)... but the fusion pistols are proving to be a challenge, I may just whittle down a Brightlance until it fits the wrist mounting. The other option is to gconvert up some fire dragons and storm guardians.. but that adds quite a bit to the costs of what I'm doing! I have an army list drawn up in the eldar section of the forum, I have been so happy that ForgeWorld made a Corsair army list it almost tempts me away from the Eldaanesh mix of Daemons and Eldar, except that i've bought nearly everything for the army already. (just need to get a razorwing jetfighter and a d-cannon support weapon for a converted warp hunter) thanks for the comments... seems she inspires you as much as me! simple kit bashing from a Dark Eldar Reaver jet Bike, Daemonette Head and Eldar Dire Avenger Body (gotta love Ebay!) PS..What colour should I do the Army.. I had been thinking Purple with Black and White harlequin diamond patterns (with a possible inclusion later down the line of 'The Masque' from Chaos Daemones and a Troupe of Twisted Harlequins).. Possibly the army will be based on this sort of thing: 1st Image by Moi These far superior images I found on the net:

Hmmm yeah theyre cool, and fit well with the 'inbetween elar/dark eldar' idea. Why not have each squad different a bit though? They are after all a band of renegades, cut-throats and mercinaries

Heck Yeah!..
Though I'd like to convey a theme at the same time.... black and white allow this, and purple works with green, orange, pink and lightning blue so that probably gives enough scope for individualism.
There will be Vehicles too which will need special attention like freehand art and interesting patterns.
I'll also be fielding some straight up Daemonettes and a Daemon Prince in this list, s I see the 2 Princes having difficulty deciding who's in charge! (technically the Corsair Prince is, as he takes the HQ slot, but since the army is infused with Slaanesh the Daemon Prince may have different ideas!)

So I did all my chores, paid the bills, changed the nappy etc.. meaning I could spend most of yesterday building the next few of the Corsair Squad. Corsairs are allowed a sergeant type (the first model I did - with the claw representing a power weapon) and a special weapon and heavy weapon for every five in a squad. The choices are very limited though and I wouldn't want to be in melta / flamer range with such expensive troops anyway so have gone for Eldar Missile Launchers as the stable diet for these girls. So..here you go: I like how they've been going so far, the small claws holding the guns work quite well, the only issue I have is the left hand of the Missile Launcher doesn't really work.. she could do with a handle to be holding or something, at the moment it just looks like she's gripping the top - which wouldn't give much support to the weight of such a massive cannon! I will be making another 5 for this squad before I start painting them, another Missile Launcher, and 4 avenger cats (which will be proxied as lasblasters). It is tempting from a fluff perspective to mix up the weapons more, but they have poor options and would become quite ineffective + expensive during a game. Hope you like them!
