So, I've gotten hold of some of the old plastic Storm Troopers and also the new metal Storm Trooper Sergeant so I thought I throw them together to form a unit. My problem is that I have no idea how to paint them. I want a full squad of ten including two meltas but I only have five of the plastic ones. The rest I will convert from the metal melta troopers and standard Cadians (with plasticard carapace).
So, I will need a paint scheme that not only works for the plastic storm troopers but also the new metal sergeant and Cadian converts. I'm thinking adeptus grey uniforms with shadow grey armour/webbing or shadow grey uniforms with black armour/webbings. What do you say? They'll get red berets in either case.

If there is going to be some uniform design variations (which it sounds like there is) then some kind of camo pattern which breaks up their outlines would make them look more like a cohesive unit. Maybe an urban camo scheme with the colors you are thinking in a digi-cam pattern (all the little square groupings). With that as your base you can paint up the highlights in different colors to give the models some character, while not having to worry so much that their armor looks different.

I myself would be inclined to paint them up with a similar pattern on the Fatuiges to your normal Guardsmen, but then maybe put a darker colour on the Flak/Carapace armour, just to try and make them look more special force's like.... And why a red beret?! Give them Beige!!! Who better to base Special forces on than the S.A.S?!

That aside, I want them to looek distinctly different from the rest of my army for two reason. The first is so that to not confuse them with my regular Cadian-based troops (don't want to cause any WYSIWYG disputes about the carapace). Second is because they are not technically part of the Krinov Fifth Expeditionary Corps. They hail from the same planet but have recieved their training elsewhere and are only attached to the 5th.
