Thanks Krieg. I don't think i am going to do the gas mask thing, however I think I am going to try and make the necron faces more maks like by actually making them masks using green stuff. I saw a tutorial on youtube about making molds with GS and I think I am going to try that.

I've found that when it comes to washing vehicles do the major portions like the crevices and concave corners. But don't bother with the rivets. Then once you highlight it, it will look lovely. For some reason inks around the rivets doesn't look good to me. That might be why you're not happy with it.

As someone who can do eyes to save my life: I feel your pain. The common error is drawing a white eye with a black dot in the middle - try a thin black line, with a tiny white dot at either end. Stops the "googly" effect :-) (Says the guy with the gasmask army, hah. Actually, it's mouths I hate painting.)

Speaking of Tanks I started working on a chimera, and I am having trouble with it. I started with the base color and all that however I am not liking how the wash came out. I don't want an incredibly beat up vehicle, but I would like to have some nice detail like a lot of the other vehicles I have seen done on here. Could be because I haven't started highlighting the tank yet idk. If anyone could give me some pointers to try I am all ears. It could be because you've done some of the details but not others, so it looks quite unnatural to the eye. It could be that you've only washed the details and not the whole body - that's to taste. It could also be the choice of wash itself - maybe try a lighter wash (water it down or a different shade altogether, I'm not sure what you're using) and cover the whole thing so it can pick out the details itself without looking too scruffy.

try again on the chimera.
paint the chimeras whole body back to the original colour, wash whole tanks with a brown wash (add a little water, no more than 20%) leave to dry, drybrush with a bright highlight (i use iyaden darksun) paint over un-natural flat areas with a colour that matches the colour after wash ( watery is best for flatness) , then drybrush in bleached bone ... this is the method i use for painting tanks, the idea of the wash is it picks out detail for you and adds darkened areas in recesses...hence why you must cover it 100% ... trust me, while your doing it you will be like 'oh hell thats too much' but once its dry it will look ace... if there are any areas pooling, just dab the area gently with a large dry brush (not drybrush) to soak it into the brush and remove it from the model.
as for eyes, badgersplatter has it spot on, paint a black eye surface then place a dot of white either side... works for me most of the time.

A plus side to being a musicsian A down side is awful spelling ;D Guitar wire can be quite stuff and spikey, so wear gloves or use pliers! If not, see if you can get some that's been cast in pewter; it sounds stupid, and it's much more bendy than normal steel guitar wire and still has all the details you want!

Okay I want peoples opinions on something I want to change with my army. I really like the Tauros vehicles a lot and am going to eventually field up to the maximum I can ( at this time 9) Looking at these I was thinking of trying to modify a few in a way to make them troop transports. However I actually found a better idea and think it will tie into my army a little bit better. I want to know what you all think of using 1/35 USMC Stryker kits as stand in chimeras? I feel these fit the look of the Tauros vehicles well and for some reason I never really liked the chimeras to begin with. I am still looking around for cheap kits so it is only on the table as of now. But as a result my chimeras will not be getting painted for a bit until I can decide. Guess it will be the LR's this 3 day weekend then haha.

well i like it... try to keep the wheeled vehicles a theme, it would look really cool...
done a few calculations... should be 19 cm long 7.5 cm wide 7.5 cm tall
to me, thats a decent size for a transport... i always thought 40k tanks were a little small anyway

It's a 1/35 scale resemblance haha. Saw that today in his thread and it made me want to use these as transports.

Yeah I have 5 chimeras at the moment as well. Good thing for me I have only put two some what together. So if I like the stryker idea I can sell them.
Also btw I just got work that a package has arrived from Cosmic. And seeing as how I am such a nice guy I will let you all join in on waiting until I get home to see the awesomeness that awaits. Since I have to wait why not have everyone else wait as we'll hahahahahaha.

Where can you buy those strykers from ? I spray painted my chimera with "sand" colour spray paint and it's just ruined it so now I have no Chimeras, if their not too privey they could easily be modified for my Chimera role

@ivory I was looking on ebay. The price ranges from 20-60 dollars depending on what you find at the time. 3ff3ct I know you wanted a full army shot so here it is at the time being. I still have my heavy weapons teams to build and 4 tanks. Right now I have my 5 chimeras on Ebay to get the extra money to buy the strykers. I have ordered a big order of Vallejo paints so I should be able to try my hand at some weathering on the tanks once they are built.
