Over the weekend I played 3 games against SM Ork and CSM armies. Ive been trying to Play a really aggressive guard, scouting in Gunships that drop melta vets, throwing marbo into the thick of things, and using two LRBTs to back up my two giant 4 Inf squad platoons.
Anyway, rather than using the LR s to sit still and back up the gunline, ive been thinking about putting on demolisher cannons and using them to follow up the vendetta drop assult. does anybody have any ideas on if this is a good idea or should i just stick with the immobile russ firebase?

The demolisher is due to the short range ideal to follow the troops into the fray. And if you keep them in front of him you'll have cover for him as well!
I use my LRBTs as fire bases in tha back for the first 2-3 turns, then charge. During that time the demolisher (and hellhound) is driving around the field, quite happily, and blasting everything from land raiders to guardians to small pieces.

Awesome! I was hoping this would be a good idea. Cant wait to see my friends faces when those demolishers show up, especially if any of my meltas or gunships are still hanging about!

I love my demolishers. I give them just the hull lascannon and then move them forward with my infantry. They are mainly there to draw fire away from the more fragile manticores, and to also give them cover. They are also able to take on most targets that they come across with some degree of success.
Danesk, are you saying that your infantry give cover to your tank? This is pretty hard to do I find, at least without clustering the men more than I would like to.

Trickstick: I cluster my men quite happily, depending on who I'm fighting. If it's eldar I'll do anything to get out of the way of that brightlance, plus I hope to choke the enemy infantry if (when) they charge.
Against Nids or orks they are a bit more spread out to cover more surface

Hmm, I ll have to try throwing in a mantiore with my two demolishers. Between that and gunships scouting vets somebody on the other side of the table is going to have an annoying time with picking out targets..

Guardsmen aren't tall enough to give Leman Russes cover saves, it can't be done. You can only use Guardsmen to give saves to a Chimera-chassis vehicle. Remember, it isn't just the hull that counts, the turret does as well.

Hmm, guardsmen can cover chimera chassis vehicles, eh? I'm picking up more and more details all the time

If taking demolishers, maybe consider dropping one of those platoons for a couple squads of veterans in chimeras and use the chimeras to support and give cover to the demolishers.

They might be able to. You have to completely obscure 50% of the vehicle. The chimera chassis itself is low enough to maybe allow a save if you get enough men to try and obscure it.

Makes sense, the added chimera vets would probably be stronger than the normal infantry. They would be able to get into the fight quicker too. I want to add a manticore too, just to try and make the first few turns an absolute nightmare.

You're right orren, thought of the rules from the last edition. Or, that is, how we interpreted them.
