Well I finally managed to get in a game with my freshly made guardsmen.
My list was made of;
Primaris Psyker - 70
Demolition Vets (melta,shotguns) + Chimera (ML&HF) - 185
Grenadier Vets (3x grenade Launchers) + Chimera (ML&HB) - 170
Psyker Battle Squad (1 extra) - 70
=495
His list was a little over, but i just wanted a game and wasnt to fussed. it was;
Tactical Squad (multimelta+flamer)
Tactical Squad (Heavy Bolter+Plasma gun)
Devastators (2xlascannon, 2xMissile Launchers)
I'd just like to apologise for the lack of pictures, i took one of the deployment and then just got caught up in the game and forgot. so here it is.
Mission: Kill Points
Deployment: Head to Head
Terrain: Necron terrain set, with bits of sight blocking and a piece of grassy area terrain in his deployment zone, hill in mine.
Deploy:
I deploy the two chimera up on either side of a terrain piece and the psykers on the hill. Primaris is with the demo vets. he sets up his devastators in the area terrain, MM squad in the open and the second tactical squad half behind cover.
Turn 1:
He fails to seize the initiative and so i speed both chimera 12" forward making a wall with terrain protecting the flanks. PBS use weaken resolve successfully, followed by the vets inside both chimera firing on the middle tactical squad, now with Ld 4. however all the shotguns are an inch out of range and as such the combines firepower only brings down a single marine.
His turn consists of no movement, followed by devastators and MM firing on the chimera, after a flurry of shots, only manages to shake, stun it and destroy ML.
Turn 2:
One chimera can't move or shoot, so the grenadiers and their chimera fire everything at the marines in the open, all up 3 dead marines thanks to the grenade launchers and a lucky lasgun shot. PBS uses soulstorm, passes the psychic test and hits the devastator squad, but due to ap5 only kills one.
He again moves nothing and fires everything, this time at the grenadiers chimera, shaking and stunning it and weapon destroyed (ML), much to his annoyance,
Turn 3:
Demolition Vets move 12" towards the squad on the right, half behind cover. in shooting phase, PBS fail their leadership test, Grenadiers fire at central marines, killing one. Finally, vets unleash hell on marines. 2 dead due to melta's, 5 because of demolition charge (scattered 3" into his squad to hit more) and 2 from the primaris psyker, remaining plasma gunner flees, 3 inches.
His turn, marine rallys of course, MM chooses to fire at chimaera causing a weapon destroyed. Devs fire at Veteran Chimera now that its side armour, causing it to become immobilised and finally destoyed, vets move pile out.
Turn 4:
Grenadier chimera moves full 12" at the devatators, Veterans move towards the middle tactical squad, Primaris moves towards the lone plasma gunner. PBS passes psychic test , but scatters 10" away from devastators and does nothing. Grenadiers through three direct frag hits from grenade launhers kill 2 Devastators. Vets shoot everything at the marines, killing another 4, before only the MM, flamer and sergeant with PF are left. Primaris manage to kill he lone plasma gunner with lightning arc. and finally CHARGE OF THE VETERANS!! Manage to cause 4 wounds, the Flamer and sergeant both die, leaving the MM who fails Ld test ad runs 5".
MM rallies and turns to the veterans, Devastators fire on the Grenadiers chimera and manage to wreck it, luckily not exploding. MM fires and kills one of the demo vets.
Turn 5:
Primaris moves at the lone MM, Vets and Grenadiers both move at the devs. Everything shoots, leaving one devastator alive. primaris sucessfully passes test and manages to overwhelm the MM marine. Devastator is fails to hit and is massacred by the veterans charge.
Finally tally of KP:
Guard: 3, Marines: 2
Tally of VP:
Guard: 550, marines: 130
Overall i was really happy with my guards performance. Demo Vets did brilliantly playing that aggressively, and i think that really caught him off guard having guardsmen being so up front. I think my opponent not really reading his codexes helped, examples of this are him not realising that marines rally when under half strength and i know he has some guard but he was suprised by my meltaguns firing out of the chimera, which confused me.
also, i realised afterwards that i completely forgot about smoke that could've really helped for an earlier charge. other than that i dont think i forgot much and im pretty happy with the result.
Hope to get some more games in soon with some more men.
