In the last few years iv spent a small fortune on miniatures, but have made little progress towards something presentable on the battlefield. So, like others before me, I have desided to make a post here to display my work in progress so I can get some motivation to get stuff built and painted. Photo quality is poor as its done on the iPad. But hope you enjoy anyway. First up, mordian sgt. Colour inspired from British army, or red coats in ye olden days! More coming soon.

Looking for something else, came across these bad boys! Thinking might have to dig the rule book out and see of I can field something for a game with them. Everything will be getting sprayed and painted, except them two death strike missiles - I'm hoping I can recreate that colour scheme.

Thanks man. On the right rank, half ogrys, half rattlings. Then each other rank are just guardsmen with a commissar? Leading each rank. Then just the usual guard armour. Don't know if it's game legal like.

Thanks for comments. The baneblade is the closest any model I have had to being compleat. They are a few bits I want to add to make it fit to my guard, but pics will come of that soon.
Peter: I need to dog out my Armageddon book and look. Think it's in the loft... Ugh that will take ages to find time when I can getup there! The child wanting to sleep on a night time stopping me getting up there!

WOW! love the baneblade! I've never been any good at painting tanks, so I'm always amazed at how well they can turn out when painted by someone other than...well, me! I particularly like the mud and barbed wire covering the front and sides. Really evocative of trench warfare, and reminds me of the Trench walk in Bovington tank museum!

I find tanks easier than troops. All I used was cans of spray paint, chaos black and Gray something or other. Spray black once built - making sure everywhere is covered, then let it dry. Take some blu tac and mold it to shape what you desire your cammo pattern to be. Use it to mask or areas of your tank then spray again with your second colour, but remove blu tac quickly after spraying as the edge of it melts to your tank. The just add details.
For the mud I used modelling sand mixed with pva glue, then apply to tank using a old brush. Once to dryed I used a mud colour paint (bah it's late and names have changed anyway) and painted the sand pva mix. Jobs a goodun!
Thanks for comments. Hope the above helps!

Well I think it's time to revive this thread from the dead. Paradill threw down the gauntlet to produce some mind blowing work, so here is the WIP of my first Dark Angels Dreadnaught. Current state: first layer on armour. Apologise for poor picture quality, finished product will have photos using a real camera and not an iPad.

Update time. So, since last photos, iv given the dred a base coat for the armour and trim. Iv also picked out the ribbon on the melta gun, along with the storm bolter on the power fist arm. I was torn between using Deathwing colour scheme for the trim, but desided to use gold in the end. Happy with the progress so far So, now what you all want is pictures: And side view

Some good solid base colours here, you're off to a good start, I think this'll look ace when it's done Is he going to be 'factory fresh' or are you going to rough him up a bit?

Thanks guys. I'm don't think I'm going to go for battle damage as my guard is like that, that said it won't be factory finish. I plan on having some weathering done, and it ill be based on snow, so I may have some settled snow on as well.

Right, time for the latest update! Power fist Multimelta Rear Front Need C&C please. Going to be building up the armour for highlights. The problem I have is what colours should be the bits that are still just black undercoat. Like the rectangle blocks on the front armour and the pipes and cables. Any help much appreciated!

The blocks should be the same colour as the armour, only with edge highlights. Pipes should be boltgun metal (or whatever it is nowadays) with a black wash and a highlight of metal again. I tend to do cables in a few colours, as I think it makes sense as most electrics aren't one colour. I'd go red, blue and yellow-and-black striped

I was thinking that for the blocks, just wanted to make sure. For the pipes, that what I was planning with the legs, but I was wondering if something special should be done with the pipes around the centre. Red, blue, and yellow and black cables it is then.
Two more questions: How do you write free hand so it looks good? (For the scroll plates) What should I do about the sticky out sensor looking things on the arms and body?

For freehand script, I do 'cartoon newspaper' squiggles with my thinnest brush (fine detail or 3/0 watercolour brush) with paint only on the very tip. Have a go on a piece of paper or something first. I know a few people use very fine graphic markers (00 point or smaller) although I'm a cheapskate so I've never tried it Sticky out sensor things: I'd do them as red lenses. Cosmic did a tutorial on how to do them a bit back, which is pretty much how I do them. they'll add a bit of contrast to the green and break it up a bit Of course, feel free to try something different if you think otherwise, I am by no means the authority on painting here, and great things can sometimes be learnt from experimenting

Freehand writing as in large writing that can be read or tiny writing such as the scripture on my Maulerfiend? Edit: It looks like its coming along really well Soap, are you going to be drilling out the barrels of the Multi melta? If so I recommend doing it before you add the scorch marks. So far, I approve
