FW Ryza / Mars Leman Russ Kit

I'm starting up a FW Krieg army. Since I have money to burn enmasse, I'm looking at getting 3 of the FW Ryza / Mars pattern Leman Russ kits.

That said, I'm looking to hear any advice from anyone that has assembled these kits in the past. What are the kits like, do they have particular problem issues etc etc. Anything and everything would be great experience wise.

Have you painted Resin before?

From what I understand after an enquiry made to Forge World, these model kits use the older Leman Russ plastic chassis (ie, before the last IG codex was released). This allows them to fit the trench rails at the rear of the tank.

Cosmic - yeah, I've assembled and painted several FW dreadnoughts in the past. Aside from the typcial issues with fit and finish of the resin parts everything went along just fine.

For the ryza / mars tank kits, I was more interested in finding out any surprise issues that anyone encountered in the past when assembling these beasts.

Clean the resin parts in hot soapy water, as FW does not remove their mold release agent very well. If you do not clean the resin pieces, paint and glue will not stick to your figures.

From what I have heard the FW tank kits are very nice, Cosmic bought a Bombard a while back and it turned out superb! I am planning on picking up two Russ' over the summer from FW since I run a Krieg army as well.

Turret mounting ring is made for the old pattern Leman Russ.. So this might need to be cut down to fit on newer "chassis" leman russ'.. That is the case with my FW Exterminators..

Here's a question...after looking at the ryza / mars LMs on FW, I was all set to buy a couple when I noticed that the standard battle cannon of the FW ryza / mars is not available as a complete Krieg kit. There is a Krieg battle cannon variant - looks like a conquerer barrel? - but it looks far less appealing than the standard battle cannon IMHO.

That said, did I miss something on the website? I want the full on Krieg kits, but if I'm stuck with these alternate barrels as choices, then I'd like to make sure that they are the correct battle cannons as far as WYSIWYG rules go.

You mean that one? I doubt it but you could try emailing them asking if it would be possible to have a different turret. Else go vanquisher and cut the middle down.
