Had a matchup vs. another guard player yesterday, Ryan was a capable player and from what I had heard about him it was gonna be a tough match-up, to put things in perspective he was talking about having to go back to South Afrika to do the nationals in 40K..

We rolled off and got 3 for deployment and 3 for mission..
So Capture and Control and Spearhead.. (Yay Ye' olde shoot and draw game)
The board was set up symetrical, with a number of hills, 2 small ruins and 2 "watertanks" which block LOS and which we treated as 1 story buildings (1 in each of our deployment quaters)
Deployment
We roll off to see who goes first, Ryan gets a 4 and I get a 2.. As the gentleman he is he allows me to deploy first, sneaky bugger.. (Objectives go down 1 behind each of the watertanks in our deployment, out of LOS, surprise)
-I deploy my Manticore behind the LOS blocking watertank along with my objective.
-Infantry squads gets deployed seperate around the Manticore, so outflankers can't get within 12" of it (Valk and Vendettas), Autocannons go up front and 1 goes ontop of the watertank.
- Lascannon CCS goes ontop of watertank too.
- Veterans and Mech CCS goes as close to the center as possible.
- Exterminator goes on my right flank.
- LRMBT goes on my left flank.
- Dual Vendettas (1 with PCS) goes on my left, ready to scout move.
Ryan deploys:
- Plasma vets, 1 x GL/ML vets, flamer vets w. Primaris on the right side of his deployment (my right side)
- Vanquisher goes infront of these next to the flamer veterans.
- Griffon goes in the back behind his watertank.
- Last GL/ML squad goes on the left side of his deployment, to screen the side of the griffon.
- All fast attack goes in the back area of his deployment zone, ready to do scout moves. (Melta veterans in the Valkyrie)
Scout moves:
I Scout move both Vendettas full speed to my left so that I have side shot against most of his armor.
Ryan Scout moves his flyers to my right, mirroring my movement, althou he stays closer to his deployment zone.
Ryan tries to get the initiative.. He rolls a 4..

Turn 1 top:
Movement
- Veteran chimeras move up 12" through clear terrain, pops smoke.
- Mech CCS tries to follow, but rolls a 1 on the difficult terrain role.. (Awesome sauce right there..) and is immobilised on a low hill (no cover save granted from hill)
- LRMBT shuffles below 6" towards the left, Exterminator mirrors the movement on the right.
Shooting
- Orders go out from the dual CCS, onto the Lascannon and 3 x autocannons, all but 1 AC is twin-linked against 1 Vendetta and 1 Valkyrie.
- Shots from Exterminator, AC's, LC and multilaser from the Meched CCS goes into Ryans Valk and Vendettas #1 closest to my deployment: Valk goes down, but dosn't explodes. (Meltaveterans bail out and are pinned) Vendetta gets stunned (shaken).
- Manticore gets 2 shots, I fire at the closely packed parking lot formation, getting 1 direct hit on Plasma Vet squads Chimera, second shot scatters off the, but land directly on the last Vendetta and gets 50% strenght against the Plasma Vets chimera. Vendetta fails cover save and explodes, the chimera is wrecked, but because he can't deploy all his models have to make a emergency disembarkation, squad is pinned.
- Lascannons on my Vendettas cut into, the armor of the Missile launcher veterans chimeras 1 gets cover and saves, the other fails to penetrate AV12..
- Lacking any real targets the LRMBT shoots the BC into the side armor of the Vanquisher, but fails to do anything.
Turn 1 bottom:
Movement
- Flamer Veteran Squad with Primaris moves up along side the Vanquisher face on to my Chimeras containing veterans.
- Shaken Vendetta moves flat out towards my left flank.
Shooting
- Missile launcher veterans fire single missile into my Vendetta containing the PCS, and scores a wrecked result. (Bacon sauce)
- Second Missile launcher tries to do the same, but fails to penetrate the other Vendetta.
- Primaris gets 11 shots of with lightning arch and stuns a Veteran Chimera infront of his squad.
- Vanquisher fires, rolls a 2.
- Griffon fires at the second Chimera but scatters off both times, second time getting 50% strenght, but fails to penetrate.

Turn 2 top:
Movement
- Veteran chimera move up 6" through clear terrain, infront of Vanquisher.
- Mech CCS stays put for the orders and hoping that the shaken vendetta gets closer.
- LRMBT and Exterminator stays stationary to get some HB shots into the de-meched infantry
Shooting
- Orders go out from the dual CCS, onto the Lascannon and 3 x autocannons, goes off on 2 AC, but rolls dual 6' on the 3d so no more orders that turn.
- Shots AC's, LC and multilaser from the Meched CCS goes into Ryans Vendetta #2 close to my deployment, but only manage to shake it, no shooting is fine by me..
- Manticore gets 2 shots, fires at the Griffon, Scatters 10" off target, but lands within the board and close enough to get 2 50% strenght on the right Missile launcher veteran chimera scoring a stunned.
- Lascannons on my Vendetta cut into the armor of the Griffon, but it makes its cover save.
- Exterminator pumps the Meltaveterans full of lead, when the smoke clears only 3 plebs have died because of 3+ cover saves from being in the wrecked valkyrie.
- Melta Veterans fire at the Vanquisher and gets 2 pens resulting in a immobilsed and a stunned result.
Turn 2 bottom:
Movement
- Flamer Veteran Squad dismounts they Chimera, and moves towards the melta/flamer veterans chimera who just fragged up the Vanquisher.
- Shaken Vendetta moves flat out on my left flank. Claiming a cover save.
- Plasma veterans moves out of their wreck and move on top of the watertank in his deployment zone. (4+ cover save)
Melta veterans in Valk crater moves towards my chimeras in the center.
Shooting
- Primaris Psyker fire lightning bolts into the Melta/flamer chimera in front of the Vanquisher, but rolls dual 1’s.. The shots score an immobilised (so autohitting with the meltabombs soon to come), but he takes a wound from perils.
- Melta veterans from the Valk wreck fires into the stunned chimera but fails to reach with 2 and only rolls a 3 to pen on front armor 12.
- Missile launchers, and multilasers go out towards the Vendetta with the scoring PCS embarked, but fails to do anything to it.. (Yay..!)
- Griffon fires at the Immobilised chimera, but scores a second immobilised result, no big deal here..
Assaults
- Flamer veterans assault the Immobilised chimera, it explodes, causing 2 wounds on the assaulters and 7 on my embarked squad, 2 meltas, 1 flamer left in that squad now. They make their Pinning check, but fail their moral check so falls back 7”.
Run out of time to write more on it, the game continued to top of round 6..
