I'm still trying to remember the days in and outs still, was a hectic full day of gaming, a small amount of drinking and plenty of laughs
The factions that showed up for the day were:
x2 Tyranids
Necrons
Space Wolves
Chaos Space Marines
Chaos Daemons
Blood Angels
Imperial Guard (Me)
My list for the day seemed to cause quite a stir, no one has played guard before and were expecting lots ofsquishy guardsmen. So pulling out a chimera and a sentinel soon had some heads turning
The tournament was run over four (4ft x 4ft) gaming tables. The first can be described as a ruined city with plenty of cover and very bad line of sight. The second was covered in rocky outcrops but with good visibility and open areas. The third table was a tyranid theme with lots of tyranidy stuff, good lines of sight still. The last table had a massive imperial bastion (x2 kits at least) plus a FW landing base some woods and rocky outcrops, this was an interesting board as the bastion blocked out one corner and blocked line of sight!
We used the standard rules from the battle missions book, so dedicated transport were OK, special characters were OK and you got to pick three special rules from the 40k rule book (same rules for all the games)
My List
Veteran Squad
x2 Plasma Gunners (1x Feel No Pain)
Veteran HW Team - Autocannon (Relentless)
Chimera
Scout Sentinel (Hit and Run - this was a bad choice)
First Game
Table 2 - Rockey outcrop
Space Wolves - 5 SW Terminators (x1 Assault Cannon, x1 Combi Melta)
He gets deployment and sets up as far forward as possible, I perch my chimera and sentinel on a low hill.
First turns, he moves and runs everything, shoots assault cannon at the sentinel, misses! Everything else just bounces off. My first turn, I don't move but open up a can of whoop a s s on him force him to take saves on three occasions killing one termi.
Second turn, he moves again runs all again, assaults the sentinel (nothing) shoots everything (nothing) My second turn, I break off CC with the sentinel moves 8" and the chimera backs up a little and pops smoke. Fire everything taking one termi (assault cannon) with a lasgun and one with a multi laser, plasma gunner tries to blow himself up.... (the first of many)
Third turn he passes his morale test, he moves and assaults my sentinel again finally wrecking it! Shoots and fails to penetrate the Chimera. My turn, I open up again, taking one termi with HB to the face
Fourth turn, he passes his morale test. Moves the last two termies to assault range, shoots combi melta at chimera side armour from a range of 5".....misses! Assaults the chimera, nothing. I open up again, first termi goes down to multi laser, plasma gunner blows himself up! (the one with FnP!!) Last termi dies to the other plasma shot for the win!
what a good start.....!
Second Game
Table 3 - Tyranid homeworld....(must have missed the sign, because they were not happy with me!)
Tyranids - 2 Hive Guards and 3 Warriors
What happened next was definitely not to plan..
He sets up a fair way back, me too, both have no real line of sight...not that he needed it. I steal the initiative move the Sentinel to get LoS take a wound of a warrior. His first turn can only be described as a slaughter, he popped the chimera from behind cover (DAM Hive Guards firing Impailer Canons from behind cover! Thanks again MW!!) and killed 3-4 guys with the resulting explosion, plus pinning a few! The sentinel goes down wrecked as well and the rest of his horde kill all but 5 of the remaining guardsmen..... My first turn and I pass my morale (whats left of it) My shooting is ineffective.
Second turn, well......lets just say it was a good win for the nids!
Third Game
Table 4 - Imperial Station (with the massive double bastion)
Tyranids - Lictor, Genies and broodlord
He sets up as close as possible in the trees, lictor in reserve.
I set up Sentinel on a rocky outcrop in the middle and the chimera down low between some rocks.
My turn first, move the Chimera forward and shoot at everything at range and what can be seen, kill one Genie and take a wound off the broodlord
His first turn he moves and runs everything toward me
My second turn, I move the Chimera again and shoot at what i can see, another genie goes down (Couldn't see a lot)
His second turn, Lictor DS behind the chimera, just out of rapid fire range. Moves everything around the massive bastion.
My third turn shoot at everything including the lictor taking a wound off it with a plasma gun (He also tries to blow himself up again) Multi laser another genie to death, a few more and he will be testing for morale
His third turn, he assaults and pops the chimera wrecking it and the sentinel which shrugs off the attacks.
My fourth turn, I shoot a couple more genies killing two and putting a wound another wound on the lictor. I now await the slaughter...
His fourth turn, the lictor shoots its flesh hooks at the sentinel wrecking it and launches a CC attacks against the Guards Squad around the back of the wrecked Chimera killing a few.
My fifth turn, Shoot at his his exposed Genies, killing a nother and missing the broodlord, Lasgun takes down the Lictor after everything else misses!
His fifth turn, failed his morale test!
Win for the guard and I really wasn't expecting that! Just shows that shooting at different targets as allowed in Kill Team definitely favors rapid firing guard!
Will write up the remaining games later
I took my camera but as usual completely forgot about it!
Well done if you made it this far!
