Light Infantry/Mixed Regiment
A Sahran battleforce risen to re-enforce the Cadian 122nd, the 122nd is now the primary regiment that a Sahran fighter will join unless they are needed elsewhere.
Sahra Details:
See below
The 122nd Structure:
Sahran/Cadian mix : 40:60 +/- 10% at any one time
Sahran Basic Training : 12 Terran years (from age 5)
Favoured Special Weapon : Flame weapons
Favoured Heavy Weapon : Mortars
Regiment's Primary Vehicle : Leman Russ
Standard Issue Weapon : Lasgun
Elite Droops Wing : The Vultures
"Heavy Bolters? They're OK but they jam. Autocannons? Jam more. Missile Launchers? Too bulky. Lascannons? Overheat. No, if you need to get some infantry support in a desert fight you take: Mortars. 'Course, there's only a 50/50 hit rate, but the boys of the 146th are worth their weight."
- Corporal Robinson, Sahran 122nd (The 146th are the Cadian regiment the 122nd utilize for Heavy Infantry fire support units)[/size]
Being a mixed battleforce, the 122nd's primary tactics vary greatly from task to task. In smaller skirmishes The Vultures are sent in making use of the 303 Ravens Valkyrie squadron heavily to accomplish their goals. In defensive encounters, the Cadian 122nd Infantry Platoons and Leman Russ (9th Thor's Own) regiment provide the big guns. However, primarily, as a Light Infantry regiment they prefer to fight in the middle ground, with support from their Mortars, Air Assets, and heavier armed battle brothers. Because of this, Vox systems operate heavily to inform each unit of the battle front situation at nearly all times. The only units not updated are The Vulture units, who are given the freedom to operate independently from the battleforce once given their orders.
The Vultures are the ambush merchants of the 122nd. Making use of specially trained Cadian troops including Cadian Kharskins, Cadian drop troops, and the 303 Ravens to flank the enemy and clear objectives with Assault weapons while the light infantry holds the line.
"Once saw one of the Cadian Vultures square up to an Ork twice the size of me as part of the defense of Sahra in 999. I assumed he had just come from Cadia where they were struggling with the Black Crusade. He leaped in front of me, sidestepped the monster's 3 huge blows in a row, but by the third had his shotgun outstretched right in the creatures face. He let it roar at the barrel and then I got covered in a green mess. He didn't even look back at me."
- Unknown Sahran Guardsman from the Sahran PDF regiments
Gear Issued:
Armour:
Cadian : Standard issue Flak armour. Reported cases of guardsmen constantly 'losing' their helmet. Some cases of guardsmen removing the sleeves of their fatigues in desert heat.
Sahran : Native combat fatigues with plates inserted in key pouches for protections.
The Vultures : Variants of Flak and Carapace armour, including standard issue, lighter 'assault' variant, and Karskin standard issue.
"We used to get a lot of flak from the Cadians when we first got merged with their 122nd in our bright yellow and brown canvas clothes. That was until the desert fight on Molov, where it took all of 30 mikes for their leading men in beige and green to get singled out by enemy gunships, while we still had the shine on our boots! There was no flak our way from then on. If only the same could be said for Major Wyre."
- Pvt Heskey, Sahran 122nd
Weapons:
As a general rule, the 122nd tries to keep 2 variants of each weapon available in order to stay flexible. This could be standard/sighted weapon variants, shotgun variants using different munition, or more mobile versions of the standard issue missile launcher.
Uniform:
Standard Issue : Desert Yellow Fatigues, Brown Armour plates
Specialist Issue : Desert camo fatigues, Brown Armour plates
The Vultures : Desert camo Fatigues, Brown Armour plates
Non-Combat Gear :
The Sahran 122nd have been trained under mechanized infantry doctrines to keep their non-combat gear such as sapper tools and specialist ammunition on their mechanized support in most cases, as the lack of line-breaking cover in the desert means that if time to use such tools is granted, the armour would provide emergency cover from a surprise assault. Heavy Weapons teams carry their own ammunition.
"Not much use for sappers out in desert. No Materials to make stuff with, and every trench you build blows away within 60 mikes. What we do have we keep on the tanks though, usually to bail them out of some tough veg. You wouldn't believe how easy it is for a 'Russ to get stuck on a Gasky plant, it's hilarious."
- Lance Corporal Stem, Sahran 122nd
