Which of the two no-frills HQ choices available to us would you choose (500-1500 point games) - the ministorum priest or the tech priest? The eternal dilemma of the Imperium: faith vs technology.
I’m starting my second guard army soon. It is to be a tooled-up, elite force, which leaves few points for a HQ. I like the lord commi and psyker, but they are pricy for such easily singled-ouyt characters. Bare-bones CCSs are decent, but wouldn’t go with my other units.
This leaves a ministorum priest or a tech priest. Both are pretty much as easy to kill as the psyker or commi, but won’t matter if (when) they are smooshed. I will use a stand-in model (probably a DKoK Quartermaster) for either, so fluff isn’t a consideration, more their in-game rules. They will accompany a shotgun/flamer/demo/carapace/powerfist vet squad in a vendetta, and will be periodically assaulting things.
The tech priest brings a power weapon, power armour and a 1-hit power fist, so is basically a tooled-up sergeant. The ministorum priest has no fancy gear (except his rosaries - I won’t take the eviscerator), but allows re-rolls to-hit when charging (potentially quite potent for the aforementioned unit).
In reality the choice is probably not going to make a whole lot of difference to game-play, but I’d like to know which one people would choose.

No one of them use up any Force Organisation chart, so you will still need to choose some other HQ on top of them.

The last question in the guard FAQ allows you to take them as your mandatory HQ I'd say the techpriest, that powerfist attack is quite nice, and it compliments the sarge's weapon.

I agree with empirespy, rerolling is nice, but not as nice as a powerfist.

if you are going to use a techpreist with vets in a chimera dont forget that he dont have the inderpendent rule so u would have to join on the board not during deployment (it suxs but true) ??

Actually, since he is a separate character, I don't think he can enter the same transport as another unit. He'd either have to have his special chimera (stolen from another unit), or would go on foot with a servitor retinue. Reds

Yep. Since the Techpriest has to run around on his own, he ends up being the squishiest of them all, despite his Power Armour.
Note also that Righteous Fury is one of the Re-Rolls that works against anything, so it helps with the Meltabombs when Assaulting Moving Vehicles.
I think the Ministorum Priest is your guy here, of those options.

45 points sure does free up a lot for other options, too.

I had overlooked at the Tech Priest was not an independent character.
This simplifies the decision somewhat: my DK Quartermaster shall be used as a stand-in Priest.
