Hi everyone, Firstly I'm not super big on tailoring lists but this is I guess a bit of a tailoring question. My friend and main opponent is a tyranid player. He has years of experience on me, practically lives at our local gw and is fairly competitive. Out of the ten games we have played together, I've won one. I know winning isn't everything but after nine loses... well you know. Anyway he has started running a new list and I was wondering if I could get some general advice of dealing with it. (I generally play mech. If the thread requires more details, I'll supply later) Now at the moment I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact details but it's something like this.
Hive Tyrant pretty much kitted out. Something around 280 pts i think. 2x tervigon that walk across the board. They can cast feel no pain on themselves and behind them out of sight is a venomthrope. The idea is 3+ armour from anything ap 4 and above with the 4+ feel no pain. Then the 5+ cover from the venomthrope for las/melta/plas (I know its only a 5+ but still). Another tervigon that out flanks. So basically 22 monstrous creatures wounds. Then there is all the guants. And I'm pretty sure he can have all this for under 1000pts. Pretty daunting. Any suggestions appricated.

To start I would take two manticores...that should help with the gaunt problem (and the monstrous creatures in a pinch), the just kit out vets with plasma. Take out the tervigones, befor you you go for the venomthrope.....or just use a vendetta to outflank, and blast the venomthrope into dust.

Plasma Spam is a good approach here. With Bring it down, it only takes something like 8 Plasma shots on average to drop a Terv. I'd only run one Manticore here. It'll take care of the Venomthrope, clear out some Gaunts, and put a few Wounds on the MCs, but there aren't enough good targets to justify two of them. And that's actually not a terribly expensive Tyrant. They can run way over 300 Points if you're not careful with them
