@ magot - that airship is seriously awesome. I'm going to have to sit down and have a good ogle at all of his other work. @ alexofthatilk, the engines are cut-down Storm Raven engines, and the lascannons are from FW Contemptor dreadnaughts. I'm actually in the process of building new lascannons for the "wing mounts" out of Sentinel ones, because they are better proportioned to the model A small package arrived in the mail today which contained a Warmachine Cygnar model. I saw this model for the first time in the link below, and just had to have it. While the scale is a tad small (hence the use of large base), it is a wonderfully detailed model - I especially love the edging on his coat. This is to be the Inquisitor who is directing the movements of the 42nd. I have always loved the Inquisitorial background to 40K (before the Grey Knight Codex started ruining it), such as the old Inquisition Codexes, and Dan Abnett’s Eisenhorn and Ravenor. In game terms he will be a Primaris Psyker, as they are now a much more interesting choice under the 6th Edition rules. I modelled an axe for two reasons. Firstly under the new rules a “force axe” suits the Guard better than a “force sword” (additional AP and strength for initiative 1), as changes are he’d be striking last anyway. Secondly I an axe seemed to be the only weapon that would look decent on him that wouldn’t require the use of greenstuff (something I choose not to use). I considered a gas mask, but I like him with the goggles and hair. Anyway, hope you like him: If you scroll right down the bottom of the linked page you can find an immaculately painted version of the original model. As you can see a coat of paint brings out all the details: www.wargamerau.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=121218

Quick update – I’m nearly finished the blimp. All I need to do is detail to fins (add some edging, rivets and Aquillas) and add the portholes either side of the front window (I may resort to square windows). I also need to add a couple of miscellaneous sensors and such. It is unfortunately a little past midnight and I would like a little sleep, so till tomorrow:

AIRSHIP ALERTI have finally finished construction of my first blimp/zeppelin/airship. I went with rectangular windows either side of the main one. Overall I’m happy with construction, though there are some changes I will be making for the second and third (construction of these is on hold for 2-3 months till I get this one painted. Principally I will be making the gondola lighter, a bit smaller, and possibly using a different material for the balloon. Just to note, the material at the back of the balloon has a few folds and is a little messy (and the bottom fin is crocked), but there isn't a lot I can do about this on this model, so I'm happy to live with it. I'll make sure the subsequent two zeppelins are neater. Anyway, I hope you like it: Here is a size comparison shot with a Vendetta from my other army: Here is a photo of the armoured might of the Krieg 42nd Engineers: 1x Manticore 2x Hydra/Griffon 2x Medusa/Colossus 1x Zeppelin Vendetta 1x Inquisitor/Primaris Psyker (the only non-DKoK infantry model in the army, and the only one actually constructed so far) Absent: 2x Zeppelin Vendettas (construction on hold) I’ve got a few things on in the coming days, but by early next week I’m hoping to have my first two veteran squads built.

I recently bought a set of heads from Victoria Miniatures, which are the best alternate heads I’ve seen for the Imperial Guard. I recommend taking at the full range as if I hadn’t bought a tonne of DK, I would seriously be considering some of the Victorian era conversions instead: victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/product/10-militia-headsI have three models for you today. The first is a FW Astropath from an Inquisitor’s retinue. I really like this model, and I’m glad I got it instead of the GW one. Second is the Captain/Colonel/Commander-of-some-rank-or-another. The DK commander is one of the nicest models in the range, and it was heartbreaking to cut off his head. I did it because I wanted to have my commander at least a little bit different from every single other Krieg army in existence. I chose the “beardy” head from the above link, as it gives the impression of an experienced, stern and uncompromising character (it looks sterner in real life than in the photos). I’m trying to decide whether his neck is still a little long – I might need to shave a bit more off his collar. I’m really happy with the Master of Ordnance. I used my favourite head from the above link (goggles and mutton chops), decapitated a standard Krieg guardsmen, and built him a theodolite. I was thinking of making a table with maps instead, but I thought a theodolite would be a little bit different. Lastly a group shot: I hope to get the four remaining CCS veterans built by end of the weekend. The damn FW lascannon is warped to buggery, so when I can get the sink to myself for a while I’m going to have to try and straighten it out.

After a few busy days of building I have about half of my infantry assembled. I have two veteran squads, an engineer squad and the CCS assembled. I still need to build two more engineer squads, two blimps, an autocannon team, a storm trooper squad and 2-3 odd models (commissars/marbo/etc). First up are the four remaining members of the CCS. I wanted my CCS to look like a tactical command post. The commander is observing the field, the MoO is calling in a bombardment, and the four veterans are standing on-hand waiting to be told what to do. Next we have the two veteran squads. These guys are to be dug in with the CCS as the army’s firebase. When I get the autocannon team they will number 23 models. The extra models allow me to play with two plasmaguns per squad or three. Harker is also floating around. Lastly we have the heroes of the army – the engineers. I want to play them with a power fist, carapace and demolitions, but in small games I’m going to need to restrict them to just shotguns, flamers and carapace. I had planned to use the Victoria Miniatures bare heads for the engineer sergeants, but I couldn’t bring myself to cut off any of the engineer’s heads – they are seriously cool models. Whilst I’m going to be around 2250-2500 points with this army, the “operational” list I’m working towards at the moment is 1200 points, and is something along these lines: CCSw/ Lascannon, Camo Cloaks and MoO Veterans w/ Lasguns, Heavy Bolter, 2x Plasmagun and Forward Sentries Veterans w/ Lasguns, Autocannon, 2x Plasmagun and Forward Sentries Veterans w/ Shotguns, 3x Flamer and Carapace Vendetta w/ 3x Lascannon Vendetta w/ 3x Lascannon Medusa w/ Heavy Flamer Manticore w/ Heavy Flamer

Thank you all for the positive feedback. Any thoughts or suggested improvements would be appreciated - especially now when everything is still freshly built and won't be painted for at least a few weeks. @ Ivory, some of the resin is multicoloured due to being from a "non-legitimate" FW supplier (hence heavily discounted). The light grey resin is the real-deal, and as you can see comprises about 80-90% of the infantry models. If you refer to the first page of the thread there is a list of everything I have acquired for the army and its origin. I've just quoted a comment of mine from my first page, as I understand most people probably aren't fully reading every post or have by now forgotten. About 75% of this army is official FW and other gaming companies (such as Kromlech). The rest is “FW but not FW”, if you catch my drift. If you plan to ask about this (including the yellow resin) please PM me and I’ll be happy to explain (I’d rather not discuss it at length here). This has been a very large investment (much larger than I had initially planned) and my finances were not endless, so I had to cut one or two corners towards the end.

I’ve managed to find a few hours to play around with a colour scheme for my engineers. It’s pretty rough because I was more interested in trying colour combinations. I love building and playing with my models, but I don’t like painting very much, so I’ve tried out some of the GW and Vallejo washes. I think these may be a good way to get this army looking good and neat without sending myself too crazy. I’ve tried out an orange colour scheme for this army. I really wanted to have a scheme that was completely unlike all of the other “muddy WWI” DKoK armies that are floating around. The idea originated from the concept of high visibility clothing that real engineers wear. They didn’t come out as I had imagined (i.e. brighter), but I’m really liking the orange as it looks like a chemically treated coat. The only three sections to pay attention to are the orange coat, blue pants and off-white armour. The rest was just me testing the look of some different colour washes and paints. Here are some shots of the engineer I was working on: Also the scheme applied to one of the CCS veterans (normal veterans don’t have the chest plate): I’m not going to be doing much painting for about two months, so I’d really like to know your thoughts on the basic scheme (if you don’t like it, tell me and say why). Also I’m looking for suggestions on what colours to consider for the rest of the model (things like the gun, gear and gas mask). I know from my last army (brown and green cadian plastics) that it was a funny shade of pink that really set off the rest of the scheme, so I’m open to all kinds of ideas.

I was in doubt to comment on the new color scheme, cos it is still w.i.p. But I am afraid that I don't like the bright colors, can't see them seriously hiding in cover

I like the engineer colour scheme, personally. Although the blue makes it look like he's wearing jeans.
The militia heads from Victoria Lamb - love how you tied them in with Krieg IG. Was considering getting some of them.

I like the colour scheme, I think the brightness works, and you can always have fun muddy-ing it up a bit. I LOVE the conversions you've been doing too, this will be a great DKoK army with your own slant!

Aside from an interlude of fishing next week I'm back and I mean business. Since university is all but over I now have the time to work on this army, and I want it all finished (plus maybe a display board) by the close of 2012. I sat down today and started to paint up some of the engineers. First thing I wanted to do was try out a slightly darker armour. I'm still undecided though, and would appreciate some opinions. I apologise for the shoddy pics - I included the two because one is darker than real life and one is brighter Ignore everything on the models except the orange coats, blue pants (which I actually like, despite most people not liking them) and the armour - everything else is either undercoat or me just testing out new washes and paints. I'm a little concerned that once the shotgun and other gear are painted it will be too grey with the dark armour. There would be more contrast between the coat, pants, armour and gear with the white, but I'm not sure whether it would be a little pale overall. Please give me your thoughts - I'm open to opinions on what I have, and suggestions about what I could do.
