Obviously nothing is for sure until the rulebook is out, but I had an idea about artillery that I wanted to share with more experienced players.
I've heard about the new wound allocation and I'm assuming the models under the templates will be the ones who are removed as casaulties.
I'm thinking, with a lot of Mortars and Grenade Launchers on the infantry and some other larger ordnance you could place the templates to disrupt squad formations and target special/heavy weapons. Obviously there would need to be anti-tank weapons too, but do you think theres a viable strategy with relying on small artillery and such?

Way too soon to say something like that But it is a simple fact that saturation will always be a sound strategy. Put enough templates on something and casualties will be a fact.

Nice to hear, can IG reliably use blast and ordnance to destroy vehicles as well?

I wouldn't say reliable as you always have the scatter.
A domolisher can put big hurt on vehicles tho...

Well our ordnance tends to be quite high S and being ordnance has 2 dice to get the Pen result needed..
So yes.. You can use ordnance to destroy tanks.. 6th might change that, doubt it, but it might..

From what I've heard the str no longer get's halved for a partial hit so if this is true it's even more likely to do some damage.

Yeah, I know scattering is never reliable, but I'm trying to make a list that doesn't use direct shots like melta and lascannon for vehicles but instead has a lot of artillery that it uses to kill all types of enemies. I think we have enough options, the real question is are they cheap enough to afford enough to deal enough damage.

6th Ed actually improves Blasts against Vehicles from what I've seen (and that was a page posted up on GW's website, not some random Interweb dude). As Commissarrob mentioned, Blasts get to keep their full Strength even if the center hole scatters off, bringing BattleCannon back up to solid Anti-Tank, and making Demolishers, Medusae, and Manticores straight up terrifying, especially to anyone trying to run a Parking Lot-type setup.
