For all the laser/plasma technology in 38,000 years, I find it amazing that shoelaces still exist. Well, Occam's razor and all that. String is actually on one man's best inventions. A lot of things wouldn't be abel to exist without string-based technology. Who needs that heretic xeno Velcro? (-: It always amuses me when people bring up that they should have better technology in 40k. This is a galaxy where technology has become a ritualised religion and few people know how anything really works. I like the random, cobbled-together nature of Imperial technology. Where else would you get a combination of the lasgun, one of the best and most advanced infantry weapons ever, with starships that load giant shells into cannons by using vast teams of slaves?

aww.. c'mon, the hydra is an AA platform.. before (in 5th) it was weird that it could even be used on ground targets (al beit, very effectivly). . Why is it weird? AA platforms have always been useful against infantry and light vehicles, the primary reason for their not being deployed to frontline combat is because they're inadequate in an Anti-Tank role, and no sane commander would ever attempt a direct assault on an enemy position with light vehicles (but because the 40K ruleset is blatantly retarded, you can do this). Also, the lasgun has an effective range of 300 metres, never breaks and is a logistical mass-issue dream. That's not advanced, that's a Kalashnikov.
