So now that the wound allocation shenanigans has been fixed I wanted to hear what you guys thought of this tactic now. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about the basic tactic is putting a griffon with two other pieces of artillery, usually collosus or medusas. You the fire the griffon first to get the reroll on the scatter and then the two others scatter off of this improving accuracy theoretically. Now that wounds are allocated to do the most damage do you think this tactic is more viable now?

Hmm, well first off I don't think it works with Medusa since that does not indirect fire so won't use multiple barrage rules. That being said, I think it would work better in this edition if you play your cards right. Mainly this
A) Keep the Griffin closest to the target unit (so it is the "main" template to scatter from) B) Aim the hole over the guys you want to kill like heavy weapons and such.
If you do this, then they should need to allocate hits from closest to the center hole. This could in effect let you pick out heavy weapons and such with your weapons.

My mistake, forgot medusa was direct only. I didn't even think of using it to pick out specific targets within squads as well. The way I understand it, unlike regular blast weapons which allocate wounds closest to furthest the same as regular shooting, barrage weapons allocate the wounds to the models actually under the template. Am I correct in this interpretation?

Correct! as quoted by the book "To determine weather a unit wounded by a Barrage weapon is allowed a cover save, and when determining wound allocation, always assume the shot is coming from the center of the blast marker, instead of the firing model. Hits against Vehicles are always resolved against side armor"
And Concerning Multiple barrage
"The barrage weapon closest to the target unit fires first. Place the blast marker over the target, then roll for scatter as described earlier"
So, position your Griffin closest to the enemy, drop that template on top of the Sargent and have at it!

Now with multiple barrages, say you get a bullseye with your griffin then bullseye with your collosus and place it directly on top of the griffon's shot. If the griffon kills all of the models it hits are the collosus wounds lost?

When I go griffin spotting, I don't take my rulebook with me, so it doesn't matter which edition it is (sorry, I couldn't resist) OT: surely this still suffers from the other problem, it is more likely to scatter off the griffins good location, and not get as many hits.

Ya that part of it has been debated to death lol some people like it and some don`t but at least it doesn't suffer from wound allocation problems anymore

It depends on the unit your shooting. This tactic is for people who are shooting at a unit that can be covered by multiple large templates, otherwise its wasted effort. With that said, I used multiple barrages yesterday and found that you do get a lot more wounds than you'd think. Most of the time, a model is half covered by the edge of the blast, and the second blast hits half of the same model for extra wounds.
My mortar team was getting 7-12 hits on plaguemarines and thousand sons. Hitting multiple models multiple times.
Combining 3 large blast barrages would be trickier because of how large they are, but its going to be so situational that its going to be personal preference.

Im pritty sure this is in an FAQ..
If the griffin teams up with other barrage units, it looses its special re-roll ability or it must fire last.

Well there is no regular FAQ and the Imperial Guard has nothing to say about either Griffons or Barrage weapons, so it looks like a valid tactic at the moment. Since all shots are resolved simultaneously and follow most of the normal rules for a shooting attack, you can end up killing a whole squad even if you stack all the blast markers on top of each other (if you roll all hits, for example). The wound allocation bit simply states to wound the model nearest the center of the template first, with no restriction that a model has to be under a blast marker to have a wound allocated to it.
Fun fact: Multiple Barrages don't say anything about needing to be fired indirectly, so you just need weapons with the Barrage special rule to do it. Direct firing Basilisks doing a multiple barrage just for kicks!

Korpsman, I agree with you, but what is the profit of the basilisks firing directly? If you shoot your Griffon first (for the re-rill possibility) than your Basilisk templates are located with a scatter as described before, place a hit anywhere but touching the earlier one, with an arrow place the template touching in the direction of the arrow to the earlier one. You don´t need to subtract your BS from the artillery dice because you don´t use that one. Saying that, means there is no difference in Direct and Indirect. i.m.h.o. But YES fun it is. - Griffon first (for the re-roll option if you need it) - Colossus second, preferably score a hit and place it over the center of the unit (tuching the Griffons blast wherever you like) - build op the 2 wound pools - When wound allocation begins, start with the pool of the Colossus (no cover saves !) - and finish the unit of with the Griffon if there is anything left

Oh I don't think there is an actual benefit, but firing directly vs. indirectly isn't a choice anymore. If you can see your target and he's outside your minimum range and inside your maximum range then it is direct fire. If he is out of LoS and/or inside your minimum range it is indirect fire. My main point was that you use the multiple barrage rule whether you are direct firing or not, which didn't use to be the case. Multiple barrage is, IMO, better than firing all the shots separately most of the time (not always) because the random long scatters don't happen after the first roll. Personal preference, but I thought it was interesting how it changed.
