Hi folks, I need the helpful eyes of people who have experience of Forge World models. I have dropped over £1,500 on that website over the years so am fairly au fait with their models, but some interesting features of a recent eBay purchase of a Leman Russ Thunderer caught my eye when it arrived. See below. First of all, the colour of the resin was much lighter than the usual Forge World standard. I know that they do some of the Titan models in white resin, but this is different again. The flash on the back of each part was excessive, and not at all like Forge World's normal quality: Secondly, I am using the LR Thunderer model that I bought from Forge World a few months ago as comparison to this one. Note that there is a large rear plate on the original one (red arrow) that is not present on the new one (blue arrow). This plate is built into the main chassis on the top model so is not simply a piece that is missing: Finally, there is a large gap on one side that is not presnt on the other. It is also not present on the model that I bought from Forge World: I should point out that the painted model is a conversion kit for the Thunderer, which have been removed from the FW website in the last couple of months. I do not know if the version that I bought off eBay is simply an older version, but somethign does not look or feel right about this. Any thoughts or experience?

The 2nd pic looks like it's made from clay or bubblegum! However, for me, if it looks ok as a compleat model without a daft amount of cleaning up then dose it matter if it's a recast?
If you don't feel right about recasts, then, yeah I think it's a recast.

Without doubt that is a recast, the cast itself might be passable on the out side be the side you dont see is shocking.

Ewww. That looks like poop. but then again that is the risk you take with Ebay. I would say as long as the exterior looks alright don't worry to much about it. However if it is purely coming from a money stand point since the seller didn't state it was a recast see if you can get some money back, or get a full refund.

Or send their details to Forgeworld and laugh manically ;D And then get your money back I'm very tempted to do that, to be honest. I really enjoy this hobby and am happy to spend money on supporting a company that makes good quality models. I have no problem with people making casts of these models, as long as they are not selling them as genuine articles and cutting into the revenue of the real producers.

Incidentally, what is eBay's policy on this? Would I have to return the item and pay the postage in order to get a refund, or would I be entitled to a partial refund and keep the item?

Id send the guy a message along the lines of : Can i have a 50% refund as the item is a knock off, or i will report the transaction to forgeworld. Then you win cause you got a cheap tank and he wins cause he doesnt get boned for copyright infringment.

I've already lodged a case with eBay and emailed Forge World to request confirmation so we'll see what comes of it. I have no problems with people making castings as long as they do not sell them!

Forge World replied and urged me to send it on to them for assessment. They will replace it with a genuine one, so that saves messing around with eBay.

This got me thinking... Is it legal to sell recasts on ebay if you state they are recasts or would you have to modify them slightly so their not replicas of gw/fw gear before you could sell them? And no, im not trying to sell knock off gear

Not legal. GW's interlectual property policy is very strict about this:

So.... Your allowed to recast for personal use but not profit? Or not atall?

I would say for personal use only because how would they know unless you are going around telling everyone. Forgeworld would like it if you didn't do it at all but really they can't stop people from doing it only selling.

Thats clear enough, tbh i wouldnt do it anyway like any other crime but if i ever got into sculpting its handy to know how far i have to go before i can sell stuff.
Also does anyone else constantly read the thread topic as 'is this racist?' lol

You're now on my Personal Heroes list. Feel free to refer to Rook as Buddy or Dude, as you're now sat next to him with the Dalai Lama and Jimi Hendrix (you can Hi-Five them if you meet them too [well, this Dalai Lama anyway])
