My buddy and I have a VERY different interpretation for how cover saves from ruins should work. Below is how I have interpreted it, what do you guys think?
Ruins-
Determine the percentage of target model visible from the firing unit. If 25% obscured from AT LEAST one firing model, 4+ Pg. 8, 18, 98
Count only the BASE of the terrain as AREA TERRAIN. 5+ (unless 25% obscured by parts of the same terrain piece) Pg. 91 and 98
Each upper level (2 and up) is considered open terrain in regards to cover (25% obscured 4+ still applies) pg. 98
What this means:
Firer is outside ruins shooting at target behind ruins' walls. Model allocated wound is obscured 25% by at least one model from firing unit. 4+ Cover Save.
Target unit on the top level is hit by barrage weapon landing behind them, on the same level as them. (See page 100). No cover. Armor and AP applies as normal.
Firer is behind ruins shooting into target unit hiding behind bits of destroyed ruins, modeled on the base of a ruin structure. Target model allocated wound is 25% obscured. 4+ cover.
Firer is behind ruins shooting into target unit standing on BASE of ruins. Target unit is NOT 25% obscured. 5+ cover.
Target is standing on first, second and third level of ruins. Firer is behind ruins' walls shooting (See pg 101, ignore they are using a template weapon. Using picture as a model placement referrence). Models on second and third level allocated wounds receive 4+ cover ONLY if 25% obscured. This can be caused by the angle of attack, ie the floor is covering a part of the target model from the firer's perspective. The models on the ground level receive cover ONLY if there is a BASE 5+ or, there is some part of the terrain that conveys 25% obscurity 4+. (Ground floor orcs on pg 101 would NOT get cover)
