Good work. You've a special talent with vehicles, some of those shots of the Valkyrie are amazing. Compared to the early infantry pics, the later ones definitely show the benefits of decent lighting though... First class all round - especially tanks and weathering. Looking forward to seeing more

Welcome Sir, that's a stunning army you're commanding. I really like the paint jobs. especially of the vehicles and the Valk. nice color shame, and very good weathering.
what's the color you used for them?
I hope to see more soon.

Very nice stuff you have here! The infantry with the Halo-ish helmets and SM pack look particularly awesome.
PS- Dont mean to pry, but I'm guessing by your your screen name and your regiments name that your an FF8 fan?

Thanks for the kind comments guys @colonel Scipio Cheers, Hydra Flakk Tank is next on the cards... magot The colour I used to start with was Desert Yellow and the later Models (2nd Russ on) were painted using Tallarn Sand. Ponen19 You would be right! FF8 is by far my favourite game ever! Adkenpachi Are you refering to the Halo-esque helmets I used on the veteran Squad? If so, the heads are from a company called Pig Iron. @jackal-0311 Thank you!

Ponen19 You would be right! FF8 is by far my favourite game ever! Excellent choice, definitely one of the best games in the series.

I preferred FFVII - even 15+ years later it's still my all-time favourite (just ahead of Fallout 3). Number 8 was superb though and is still worth revisiting.
In regards to the pictures, there's some nice work up there. The only improvement that I could suggest is to the small blast marks on the side of the Leman Russ hull - they look a bit too "painted". Have you tried sinking a small hole and then using the tip of a craft knife to scratch out the pock marks from the centre working your way out? It's a really good way to add extra texture to a vehicle.

The tanks are definately your specialty. How did you achieve the plasma effect ?

@welsh Paul Yeah, I figured out that technique on my demolisher, if you look at the sides of the sponsons, you can just make out the bullet holes with a better crackle effect. kobracommander Thanks for the kind comment! When you say the original FF, do you mean the Japanese one? I know when the got released in the States and the UK the numbers got changed! I think FF3 in the UK and the states was actually FF6 in Japan. I think the titles got changed around because not all the games were released over here to start with! The same with a lot of films as well! 3ff3ct Cheers, I think the camo netting looks a lot better on the 2nd Russ! I think I got the colour too dark on the first one's camo. @ivory The Plasma effects were done by using a base coat of Chaos black then a base of Mordian Blue on the plasma areas and the areas the plasma light will shine, give the plasma parts a black wash, dry brush the plasma areas and where the light will shire Enchanted blue, repeat the samme with Ice blue then again with skull white. I hope that helps!

I hate it when shops stick stickers on like that! They end up such a pain to remove!

How did you create the master chef looking unit of Infantry?

Post by Squall on Aug 10, 2012 16:23:55 GMT -5
@ commisarblur The Halo-esque squad was created using heads from a company called Pig Iron, they're a company that specialise in 28mm sci fi minitures and quite a lot of their bits fit the Guard quite well. The back packs are old 90's Marine ones and the additional armour on the knees and arms were made using green stuff! I hope that helps!

The Hydra looks very nice and I do like the weathering, but why are the tracks also not showing signs of wear and tear? Also, have the turrets been drybrushed or have they had some chipped paint effect applied using a spounge? It's hard to tell due to the camera flash.

These look beautiful! Your Khaki dress is spot on, the vehicles are well contrasted and crisp looking, and your Valk is very cleanly painted (which is something I've just struggled with recently) so I can really appreciate that.

@welsh Paul Good spot on the tracks! I did have weathering pigments on them to start with so it fitted in with the rest of the vehicle, but when I sprayed a coat of purity seal on the vehicle it made the pigments fade quite a bit! It's something I need to fix! The tracks look a little "too well maintained" compared to the rest of the vehicle! The Auto Cannons on the turret were painted Desert yellow, given a wash of Umber shade then dry brushed heavily with Beached Bone. hope that helps! optimat Thank you kindly!
