A question on casting.

Just a thought, if you didnt want to build from scratch but wanted to cast your own army how much would you have to change on a GW mini to make it "legal"?

Provided, you're not making money from the casts, and are just using them for personal use. You don't have to change anything. Now if you are giving them to mass amounts of people, or are selling them, then anything that can be identified as GW work can get you in trouble.

I dont intend on starting up a shop or anything i just wasnt sure if i could sell them for whatever reason later on down the line.

You can't sell them, or give them away. Technically, you can't cast them at all because you don't own the copyright (the hint's in the name), but if you do it for personal use, nobody's likely to come after you.

And don't take them down your local GW either - they aren't likely to be pleased.

Having said that, its a good way to practice making moulds, but its more fulfilling to make your own masters as well.

I know you cant make a complete copy of a model, that would be silly But i thought you could use them as a base for your own masters as long as you changed 50% or something.

Nope...anything that can be identified as GW, or identified as once was GW, is illegal to sell or give away. But again, if its for your own use...you'll be fine.
