At some point next year, I want to get some of the Malcador and Macharius tanks from Forgeworld. Which variants would be the best to get first?

This is a tad pointless, as You may want something totally different, if Forge world bring out some new goodies for the guard.
Do you want more anti-tank, anti-man or just looks good?

Currently building and painting a Defender. Personally think it is one of the best looking of the Malcador class tanks. I didn't really buy it to play it more for the fun of building painting and adding it to scenery and things like that. Kind of a center piece for my current army. If I were to get a Macharius it would be the double barreled battle cannon, again for the looks, not so much the play, rarely do Apoc games go down around my town.
I was actually planning on updating my thread tonight, so I will try and get some pictures up. I'd say I'm about 75-80% finished with it.

I posted a thread a little while ago discussing hte merits of the various malcador tanks.. I have an inferno and I feel it's the best of the malcador variants as it boasts a hellstorm template fired upto 18" away at S7.. which is deadly!
I would pick the one you most like the look of mind, and the one that most fits with the rest of your army, I have a shadowsword and the malcador looks a little odd next to it, I really like all the Macharius variants (especially vulcan mega bolter + the new troop transport and rocket launcher ones) but won't get them as I feel I should stick with the macador or baneblade hulls for aesthetic and fluff reasons (fluff baseds on the fact that super-heavies are rare, and that mixtures of super-heavies in low numbers are even rarer).
Get what your gut tells you to!

Malcs are fairly useless for their points expenditure. Machs aren't much better.

I have 3 Macharius Vulcans and 6 Macharius Vanquishers, love those things. Soon to be getting another Vulcan and another 2 Vanquisher variants, so I may be a little bias. (I'm not)
Vulcans are your cheaper alternatives to the Stormlord, though with the Stormlords ability to fire twice when stationary, transport capacity, firepoints, additional structure point and their points cost when compared to the Vulcan, each and every time the Stormlord should be preferred. When choosing the Vulcan it's really just a matter of looks and preference.
A standard Macharius's effectiveness is comparably equal to that of 2 standard battle tanks, though in the battle tanks case will generally offer more firepower, two targets instead of 1 and depending on the load out, cheaper than the Macharius as well.
The Macharius Vanquisher is possibly the most worthwhile variant as it offers something that the other two cannot provide or adequately provide. A mixed role, with the ability to switch between HE and AT shells. It can take on infantry and vehicles with equal contempt. Though this variant could easily be made redundant with a standard Leman Russ and a Leman Russ Vanquisher with a hull lascannon and Pask.
In conclusion, the benefits of these units are overshadowed by their drawbacks. Each variant being out classed by another type of unit(s). How could forge world fix this?
I could suggest dropping the standard Macharius to 300 points, Vanquisher to 350 and the Vulcan to 350. (Perhaps lower, maybe 285, 335 and 335.) With the options of twin linked hull heavy bolters, autocannons for 5 points, twin linked lascannons for 10. Sponson autocannons for 10 points and lascannons for 15.
