I meant snap fire, not overwatch, sorry. I forgot about blasts as well, meaning that plasma cannon sponsons can't fire...

I'd say its a nerf to try and get players to use the other Russ versions? i don't see how it makes the game better. i guess it'd kind of make players buy new russes for the turrets...

Heavy bolter sponsons never again I don't see how the tanks could have been better when compared to the Leman Russ Battle Tank with the same load out from before the faq. You have less firepower and are now considerably slower, the only things that are better for the standard MBT is that the whole blast marker hits the vehicle at full strength. (Hull points are debatable, but can mainly be seen as a plus for A14 vehicles) The only tanks in my opinion that have gotten better with the classification of heavy are the Exterminator, the Eradicator and the Punisher. - I would never put sponsons on my Vanquishers, so all heavy has done is make that tank slower. - The standard Leman Russ and the Demolisher have lost the ability to use the hull heavy flamer, there is no point in having a BS1 lascannon and there is no point in taking sponson heavy bolters. - The Executioner can take advantage of heavy, but with sponson plasma cannons now being able to overheat, that too is pointless.

Well, doesn't that mean that those with standard LRBT or Demolishers are just down to deciding to either fire the turret ordinance and the hull/sponson/pintle weapon as snap-shots OR the hull/sponson/pintle weapons at full BS? I can see the problem, but it'll be just a question of deciding when to fire what.

Hello guy's
i have read over all your post and would complete agree with everything you saying however i spoke to the manager of my local GW shop, who told me that due to the tank being a Heavy, it doent have the issue with firing ordance weapons and then having to snap-fire any secondary weapons.
what do you guys think? It means if i go to the shop i can play it that way?

However, I would have no problem letting you play it differently, as would the store you are playing at it seems. Just be aware it may come up as a rule argument. Probably something worth reading up on and talking about before a game. Rules arguments are always better if the situation isn't important at the time. Hmm, it may get FAQed at some point, although I am now liking writing lists with just hull flamer russes. They are so cheap I can fit more in!

Yeah, non-ordnance russes do not have the problem.
Unfortunately, I have 6 old style LRBTs, 1 old part metal demolisher (could even be lead, I'm not too sure when I bought that one) and only 2 new style demolishers, although with baneblade armour panels welded over the sponson locations. So I am pretty much stuck with ordnance. Oh well, my new 7 russ armoured battle group list at 1750 looks pretty fun.

You still benefit from using ST8 for all of the template when you hit enemy armour Trickstick. I think you still gain more in 6th than you lose.

I was just saying it is a shame that sponsons are not that good for them. On the plus side, it does make them easier to transport.

I just figured out that the new heavy rule makes fluff sense!
A leman russ has four crew. They are:
Commander Driver Gunner Loader
+Sponson Gunners, although they are scum and don't count really.
The loader also crews the hull weapon. So, if he is busy loading a heavy battlecannon or demolisher round, he can't properly fire the hull weapon. Using IA1 as a reference for crew numbers and duties.

Ah, I thought you were sad because you had modeled sponsons, which is a shame but it still looks cool of course. I just ripped them off and cleaned them up. I usually use very little glue for just such an occasion. On the worst bits (my original leman russ from 3rd ed) I "welded" some panels on. I need some purity seals to appease the machine spirits though. The sponsons have been on and off those things for years. It adds character...

Haha. I think I'll leave mine on. I still like the classic look of the most common tank in the galaxy.
