Here is a 1500 Space Marine army using the DA in the Dark Vengence box set as the core. Thanks to a gift of 100 dollars and being creative with some of the older models I have on hand, I didn't have to spend anything extra to get this army put together.
Captain + Powersword + Combi Plasma =125
Libraian =100
Tac Squad + Plasmapistol + Plasmagun + Plasmacannon + Droppod =235
Tac Squad + Meltagun + Missile Launcher + Droppod =210
5 Space Marine Scouts + Sniper Rifles =75
5 Terminators + Assault Cannon + Chainfist =235
Dreadnought + 2 Twinlinked Autocannons =125
5 Assault Marines + Sergeant with Plasmapistol + Plasmapistol =130
6 SPace Marine Bikes + 2 Plasmaguns =195
Land Speeder + Multimelta + Heavy Flamer =70
No rhino based vehicles in this list, not a lot of vehicles at all as a matter of fact, but still plenty of speedy units.

Are the Tac Squads being, well, Tac Squad-ed?
Aside from that, I like it. It looks a lot like the 1.5k DA army I now have.

This sounds great but are you keeping the assault squads, termies and tac squads in reserve or deploying the tactical (to make sure 1/2 the army is on the board) and dropping the empty pods? Or keeping half the squad in the pod ?

The HQs go in the pods with the tactical squads, one in each. Terminators and tac squads go in reserv. Tactical squads split into combat squads on deployment.
The first pod will take some heat off my bikes and assault marines while I manouver them into position, likey keeping a bit of distance till the second pod and terminatorts arrive then everthing goes for the kill and I watch to see what happens.
Which tac squad goes in first with what HQ attached...I haven't entirely decided.

Captain with Plasma squad to make some plasma-y goodness? Seems like the best choice as you might want the meltagun in a little too close to be risking your first drop. Then you get a lot of glowy weapons on the board quickly too.
