Today I saw the Cadian battleforce on the GW site for 100 euro. 20 guardsmen, parts for a command squad, 3 HW teams and a sentinel.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't these guys 80-85 euro and didn't they come with 2 HW teams and a Leman Russ?
I'm starting to have second thoughts about starting a different IG army...

The battleforce with the Leman Russ is the previous one which was retired sometime before my IGMB join date so that's been gone for awhile. GW prices rise every year and guard infantry boxes changed from 20 models to 10 some time in the pseudo-distant past.
It will always be very discouraging comparing current prices to prices from ~5 years ago but you can still cut a chunk off of the GW retail price by buying from one of the independents, for a 10-25% discount or going to ebay.
Also it sounds like you already have an IG army? So at least you are in a better position than a ten year old.

Even more frustrating when you realize that by buying the box your only saving $35 over buying them all separatly. Then considering the sentinel isn't nearly as helpful as a Russ or a Chimera, you're really only saving $5.

Not only did you used to get a Leman Russ but you'd also get two halves of a ruined building too.
If I were to need any more models I really think I'd just use minis from another game system like Mantic and have them "count as".

You guys are right...
Man, this is so annoying. I am all for brand loyalty (still painting with GW paints where a lot of others seem to have switched to Vallejo) but this..this is getting ridiculous.
I mean, if you guys paid attention to the "What did GW do right?" thread, you'll know I love the backstory of WH40K. Even if it is wonky as hell in places. I mean, Macharius, Cain, Gaunt, they all make for excellent stories.
But if a battle box is that expensive straight from the source, why do I even bother? Strangely enough, Black Library omnibi are ridiculously cheap for the amount of mileage you get out of them...
I don't even play the game! I just love the fluff so much. But at times, I get bored of my Orellian 22nd Expeditionary Force because they already have a lot. A Salamander, a Vindicare assassin, an Inquisitor, even some Rogue Trader era models.
Sometimes I look at the old stuff (Like the Book of the Astronomicon) and find the models. 60 pence for 3 models! 1 pound 50 for a freaking Marneus Calgar vignette! What happened to the hobby, man?
Bah. Maybe I'll start buying more West Wind or Pig Iron. It's a shame, really. GW has a good record but with the meandering (dare I say drunk driving?) I am getting less and less interested. =/ And that's especially harsh for me to admit since a GW store (dedicated, not independent stockist) has opened near my uni this year.

I agree and sympathise with your conclusive overview of GW policies over the past few years. I'm disgusted by the price hike not just in GW but everywhere : Cigarettes, etc....

It's like they're taxing my choice to die earlier. GW's price hikes have gone crazy(ier). They're really pissing off their core base, and i'm not too sure that is a sustainable business practice in the long run.

It's like they're taxing my choice to die earlier. They need to keep their work force productive and healthier for longer you see.

...I just realised something. The Imperium can be read as an analogue of GW!!!
The buyers are the citizens, stores are the uncaring nobles and whoever buys from Mantic or Pig Iron is a xeno!

I'm lucky to still have some Catachan stuff still unassembled from years ago, so it means I don't have to buy more. When I do need to buy more infantry now usually I just buy torsos and legs from bitz sites and use up the cata arms/ heads I have in my bitz box. Some bitz sites are cheaper than others, so I can get a torso from 'Let the Dice decide' for 30p and legs from most bitz sites are 50p.
A few months ago I finished the oldest box of catachans, which was still in the 20 guardsmen for £18 packaging.

I remember getting 20 Guardsmen for $50 AUD, now I get 10 for $48 AUD and with the Aussie dollar being as powerful as it is, I can purchase Forge World models for roughly the same price as their Games Workshop brethren.

It would be a shame to actually get value for money, right? Also, I think I found out how the business decisions are made over at GW HQ. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wz-PtEJEaqY

If you knew, you agreed!
Anyway, back on topic:
We know that inflation and a crappy economy don't help, but are they really this dense at GW?
+ price & - content = PROFIT?
Aren't they aware of other companies? Reaper? Mantic? West Wind? Pig Iron?

DAMN IT !!!! I just checked on GW web Site ...
Valk : 52€ (+2€) Battleforce : 100€ (+25€) that's a 33% increase, WTF is this ?!? Hell Hound : 39€ (+4€) LRBT / Demo : 39€ (+4€) In fact, everything that was 35€ is now 39€ ... more than 10% increase...
Count no more on me to buy anything directly from them ... Alternate salers, or even alternate companies will do fair enough.
Nickola
[Edit] How can they even justify this raise, the content hasn't changed a bit... And it's the same for every army in the range. [/Edit]

I know Nikola it's called being anally fisted by small perverted imps tucked away behind computer screens. I'm sick of it tbh, i've supported GW for years and all they do is milk more of my hard earned money away from me.
Make do with the models you've got.

Try buying stuff here in Australia!
A Valkyrie here is $110 (AUS) which is actually around $108 (US) !!
Safe to say, anything bigger than a box of Guardsmen and I'm looking to ebay for a deal. even with shipping my last Valk came in at $75 (AUS) Ok, it takes longer to get here, but I dont care tbh!

I know you want to stick with GW, but the Warstore has a Corporation battleforce by Mantic for cheap, and you get more troops. I am thinking about getting one to represent drop troops for my army.
