Now as i return to the game after a long hiatus (last game i played was in 3rd edition) it seems some of my kit is out of date.
What i mean by that is i have most of my commanders equipped with P fists. Used to run one on the company commander , had one on a commi, and one on my platoon commander. They racked up a fairly impressive kill count of big bads( wraithlord, daemon princes, so on)
As i rebuild my army and read army lists and such, i don't think ive seen a powerfist equipped on anyone but the occasional Lord Commissar.
Even then they were a point sink, but are they just not worth it at all anymore? Also what kind of builds do you suggest for the CCS? Id like to hear your opinions.

With the new challenge rules, equipping your commander with anything but a range weapon is now worthless. No more Nob with power klaw trick for us with the disposable wounds.

With the addition of hull points a S6 powerfist is probably more likely to take out a vehicle since glances will hurt it more. I don't see why it would be weaker against Wraithlords, etc. except that if you do the charging then you have to face overwatch.

I use one on my Company Commander sometimes. If you're getting multiple Units stuck in at once so you've got Sergeants in there to soak Challenges, it can add a nice extra bit of damage.
In general, tho, the CCS is much better as a Firepower/Buffing Unit, and if you want a real Assault Unit, well, we've got Allies now ;D

I tend to see them as either mostly "naked" units for orders, advisors etc with maybe a heavy weapon at BS4, or being used as cheap vet squads with plasma or melta.

If your running a decent amount of infantry and can spare the points, I've found vox casters to work incredibly well, really helps with the order rolls.

Guard have a rather lower LD score when compared to other troops and an even worse BS. "Bring it Down" and "First Rank Fire, Second Rank Fire" add a lot of good, often needed, shots that can mow down an enemy squad or pop an enemy tank. Having the option of re-rolling failed LD rolls is definately worth the insurance.

MY reasons for skipping vox casters are:
1. vox units take up valuable special weapon slots in command squads. 2. commissars are ld9

I'd take them if it was an option for HWSs. A commissar's leadership is good enough for me when doing FRFSRF.

Not a fan of them, I would rather spend points on more special weapons
As HWT's cant take them it kinda hurts hurts the "Bring it down" order.
As Ymmot pointed out if your running a blob squad with a Commissar then they're already Ld9 and with his "Summary Execution" USR your gonna get a re-roll of your test anyway.
In my experience I've only ever used FRFSRF, Bring it down and Fire on My Target

Summary Execution only works on Morale Tests, not other Ld Tests. No re-rolls on Orders from that.
I no longer give a Vox to my CCS most of the time, because he's generally issuing Orders to HWSs, who can't get one, but they're cheap enough that if I don't have a Lord Commissar, I'll give one to my Blobs and PCSs for FRFSRF and Move! Move! Move! Ld9 still fails 1 time in 6, which is more than I care for.

Now i have two command squads. The first one I run vith everything, astropath, master, naval officer, bodyguards, banner, vox, plasma, medic.
Not why they are usefull, but because they look cool on the table.
The second one has 4 snipers another master and senior officer with a bolter.
Lately I've found that 4 orders from CCS and 2 from platoon squads ar more than usefull.
