looking to field a master of ordinance but had a question regarding their fluff. The codex says that they are attached to the command squad to assist in firing artillery in close proximity to troop formations. Is the master of ordinance someone that is raised with the rest of the legion from its planet of origin or is it a separate entity such as an imperial gunnery school or some such thing?
i field catachan models and was asking because i want to include a MoO but was trying to decide to build one like the one Gw sells using cadian bits, or make a catachan MoO using catachan bits.

Well, most members of an Imperial Guard Regiment are from the home planet of the regiment, except in a few cases (commissars), so yes you could make your own using the catachan bits

Well Zeke's right in that they'll likely be home planet but they won't neccessarily be part of the same Regiment in the same way that the tanks and navy attachments aren't. This was part of the split to do with the Heresy where Infantry became Infantry and Armour became Armour etc. etc.
As the MoO sits as a commanding officer advisor, he will likely be from an Artillery regiment, high enough up to warrant the title and position. Where as the Commanding office he advises will be from the Infantry regiment, most likely.
But hey, this is 40k, you can do what you want anyway.
Some of the Catachan command squad poses would look good as a MoO, just give them a more intricate Vox system and a standing, assessing pose rather than a charging or aiming pose.

My master of O has green uniform which is totally different from the rest of my army. It means that he is an artillery officer the same as the tank crews. Often i call him a tankist.

My MoO is a Cadian with his legs replaced by half a dalek...

Here's my Catachan MoO: Thrown together from a variety of bits from the command squad, basic infantry bits, HW team bits, and hollowed out Cadian shoulderpads.

Though I don't use the MoO often, I have an old "Master VoxCaster" model I like to use. The larger vox equipment helps people know who he is, and gives a feel of him talking with artillery units from several kilometers away.

I think it would be fun for a Catchacan MoO to be from somewhere where vests is not the appropriate battle dress. If it was me I'd make him into a fop or prissy officer who always wears full dress uniform, despite the heat. He'd definitely stand out then!
My MoO has a big vox box, a cap, and a sentinel control stick as a rangefinder. The vehicle accessory sprue and command sprue come with so many extra goodies I don't see why people would pay the the GW model, unless they really like him- he's a fat bloke with a vox caster to my eyes.
Haven't painted mine yet but am going to go with an 'engineer' type uniform. Probably dark blue/black with a yellow stripe

Adding a Servo-skull to the model is always a great idea. MoO loves Servo-skulls

My MoO's are both made from the tank commander with legs and the bigger version of the Vox caster.
The tank commander has an arm that is cupping his ear and the whole uniform is quite different to Cadian and Catachan uniforms.
Not sure in which box he comes though.. might be the more recent Russ or possibly on the Basalisk sprue.
Servo Skulls are awesome.. though I need to find a decent way to attach them to models, I know wire is used a fair bit but I'd prefer to have something that looks part of the model.. hmm, maybe get some guitar string and make a coil which spirals round a supporting wire...

I've given my MoO a map, vox caster and a theodolite to assist in range finding (though I've recently acquired some old watches so I may be redoing the theodolite). More importantly he also has mutton chops ;D Hopefully he'll be painted within the next couple of weeks.
