Removing Cadian Shoulder Armour

Hi guys. I want to use some Cadian arms without the shoulder guards. My plan for removing them is to hack them off and smooth them out with a file. I would like to not use green stuff at all.

I guess someone here would have done the same at some point. Does anyone have any tips?

One plus is I have a lot of Cadian arms so I should be able to stuff it up a few times!

Do you have a small razor saw? Those will cut straighter and leave you with less stuff to clean up than just going to town on the pad with a knife.

I did it for my flyer pilot with exactly the method mentioned - hack off with a knife, then use the flat side of a file to shape the shoulders to not look artificially wide and the edge to carve in some creases.

I did this for my Penal Legion troopers. Basically I used clippers to trim the bulk of the pad off, and then did some work with a round file to shape what was left to look like a sleeve. With a bit of care with the file you can shape it exactly--I didn't even wind up having to use GS on mine.
