Just wanted to say hello to all on the IGMB! I'm an old time Imperial Guard player, who used to play in 2nd and 3rd ed. I found my old armies and fancied getting back into the hobby, so I picked up the rulebook, IG codex, and a few new plastic kits with the idea of starting a new Guard army. Thought to keep me enthused and focused, I'd start my own IG project log. Here's what I'm intending to build for a 1500pt army: - Company HQ with Power Fist and Master of Ordnance
- Storm Trooper Squad (x10) with 2x Melta guns
- Marbo
- Platoon HQ with Power Fist and 2x Grenade Launchers
- Infantry Squad with Missile Launcher and Grenade Launcher
- Infantry Squad with Missile Launcher and Grenade Launcher
- Veteran Demolition Squad with 3x Plasma Guns
- Chimera
- Vendetta
- Sentinel with Autocannon
- Sentinel with Autocannon
- Leman Russ Executioner with 3x Heavy Bolters
- Leman Russ with Lascannon
- Leman Russ with Lascannon
I'd also like to come up with some background for my army. Don't really want them to be another Cadian regiment. And here's the first model of the new army, the Company Command Squad Officer with Power fist: I used to play with the old metal catachans and praetorians, and plastic is literally fantastic, so couldn't resist doing a little conversion. Kinda built the Company Commander as a potential "Count as Straken" officer, hence the plasma pistol and shotgun, just in case I would want to use Straken in a future army. My painting isn't good, but what do people think about the basic paint scheme? I still have to do the base and back when I used to model I would just flock green bases, but with the camo colour basically green, I want to avoid a grass base. It wouldn't make sense to have a sandy yellow base or a grey city base, but how about just muddy brown, or maybe snow? Anyway, I know it's just one model, but any feedback would be great.

He looks great. Really nice scheme and it's well painted. for the bases maybe have a swamp or forest theme to fit the camo? They look really nice anyway and I am looking forward to more.

That is an awesome model! Really loving the dynamic feel of him as he charges into battle

Thanks guys. Yeah I did want a more aggressively posed commander, and he seems to have turned out alright. I can see him now, swinging his power fist into a Chaos Marine but getting a sword through his belly before it lands! @paxole. Thanks for the basing suggestions. Wouldn't have any idea on how to do a swamp though. Would that be just like brown and green with water effects? As for a forest, that'd be pretty hard without actual trees and trunks, wouldn't it? Brown earth, twigs and leaves. Sounds the best though. Will test that. I've decided to name the models as I paint them. For some reason giving them names and a little back story helps with the painting (don't know why!), so to accompany Major Arvo "Bull" Brummel, here is his 2ic, Captain Torlias "Two Pack" Pierson (nicknamed cos of the smoking): Another problem I'm having is that the shoulder pads/guards look pretty bare. Don't fancy putting the Cadian Gate symbol or random 3 digit number transfers on them (since they're not in sequence from one squad to the next) Any ideas on what I could put, if anything? Or would you leave the pads clean? Also was wondering about rank insignia. Anyone have any reference as to rank insignia used above Sergeant? At the moment, I'm only seeming to get very little time to do the infantry as I'm working on my first treadhead delight. More to come! :-)

I free hand the regiment numbers on mine, not very good with the transfers so I don't even bother with them. I've also started painting one shoulder a different color to represent the different platoons (right now it's silver, next will be gold, that sort of thing). Not sure how you feel about free hand drawing, but you could always do something like that to add a little character. To be honest I think they look fine bare though.

These are looking great! (I know I already said so in your intro thread, but it bears repeating). I especially like your integration of Catachan and Cadian bits, and the camo scheme is excellent. I can't wait to see how you base them!

@thing: Thanks Dave. You're too kind saying they are well painted. I often think I tend to ruin good conversions with sub standard paint jobs But I am looking forward to having a new army, and like lasguns, numbers make up for poor quality, so together the army will hopefully look good. @1974: Thanks mate. I do like two of the catachan legs quite a lot. They're a lot more dynamic and will be using them more. I do like mixing parts from different kits. SirTainly: Thank you Sir. I hope to have an army as striking as your Blood Pact I got a few small deliveries in the mail yesterday, and so I excitedly started to build my first Leman Russ. This was the result: Kinda feel it needs far more stowage. Something I need to learn... It also needs weathering, which I think I'll do once all the vehicles are done to the same level. It will also have to be snowy some how I mocked up three guys, who I'm toying to be the archetype of my vets and storm troopers (2 of the 3): The guy with the beret I think would just be a vet. I think I'm gonna weigh them down with backpacks and extra gear. The guy with the FW respirator head will have to be the storm trooper (but maybe the gun is too weedy), and the guy with the SM Scout Shotgun could be a grenadier vet or a stormie as well. Any opinions? Finally, I've mocked up some "snowy muddy field" bases: How do they look? I know some of them are awful already! Lol! You can't even see the gloss on the brown patches. Water effects any better for more realism? I'm being a skinflint, just trying out PVA and Bicarb, in different consistencies, some with the blob & sprinkle method and others mix then apply method. Should I stop being a cheapskate and go with proper snow effects flock like Woodlands? Will it make a difference?
