Hello
Im currently studying a BA honors in Game Design at Plymouth College of Art (UK). For my project this year i am basicly developing my 3d modelling skills so i decided to base my game level project on an existing franchise so that i could concentrate on the technical aspects rather than creating a whole lore etc.
However before we get around to making stuff we have to write an indepth game design document or (GDD). So for this part i have been covering the design of a whole game based around 40k.
To keep it simple i am creating a game that is based around A Female ordo Xenos Inquisitor (for those who know what that is) and the setting is a mysterieous space hulk which has emerged from the Warp.
Im planning to make it First/Third person with strong RPG elements but plenty of action aswell.
SO MY QUESTION>>>>>
What would you like to see in a Warhammer 40k game? and what do you think has been missing / could be improved about previous 40k games?
This is not a commercial product incase anyone from GW or Relic is reading this its purely a UNI project, with that in mind i will not be creating all the mechanics etc, simply designing and building a environment so you can be as creative as you like with your ideas, i already have a firm base of ideas writen down but im sure someone will have some killer ideas i never though of !

I love Fallout so something along those lines would be great.

If you start as an Inquisitor, maybe go with a Final Fantasy type of gameplay, that way you can bring in the retinue aspect and retain the RPG elements.

Already got the retinue idea down For menus / invertory etc you have your very own servo skull sidekick to display it infront of you these are all ideas as i say, i won't have to make all this, its the thought that counts lol

Wait, are you actually creating a playable level/game, or just a 3d environment? If this is an actual level/game, are you doing the programming yourself or is someone else?
I'm just asking because I've been part of a development team (it was like when I just left 8th grade, so it was only a really basic gamemaker game), and as one of two 'programmers', I ended up getting extremely frustrated because of the team hadn't talked to either us about what we could do and what we couldn't.
I ended up having to enlist the aid of a college student and take a crash course in trigonometry.
It was something one would think is simple, having a character on a 2d game orient himself and face the mouse. We never got it to work properly, the best we could do was have the mouse control his orientation.
Long anecdote aside, ideas are great, but if this is something that's going to be playable, you should make sure that either you, or whoever's doing the programming is able to pull off your ideas.
I don't mean to sound rude or harsh, I just want to help you avoid any potential drama.

Luckily i dont need any programming for this project lol
Im building in the UDK engine so basic movement etc is already there. Im just as you say creating an environene/level. But before i get around to building it i have to produce a GDD document that would essentially cover the creation of a whole game. The whole game will probably never be made even after i finish UNI as GW would not allow it to be commercial or shaared. The only way it would be made is if Relic decided to buy the concept off me lol
