Re-building an Imperial Guard Army

Hey all.

Before I begin all the pre-amble (or should I now say post-amble?) I will give you guys what you came for, PICS




The whole army, the command squad is now painted, and the red and blue guys redone the same as the rest.

Captain, admittedly one of my more poorly painted models (was getting tired of painting the scheme by then)




Tank 1, I have made some progress with a few others, although painting will not commence until they are all built and I have my airbrush working.




My Teutonic Brettonians, I have now completed the knight as well.

I have had this army for a fair few years, only recently finishing painting all the infantry, but have grown tired of the paint scheme and ramshackle assortment of weapons and gear it has.
I am going to be redoing my old Imperial Guard army. Stripping it down, converting and modifying it, then re-painting it with a new scheme.

It will be a slow log I'm afraid. My aim is to be be updating once a week with the progress I have made. This progress won't always be my Imperial Guard either, I have the Dark Vengeance kit to build and paint, as well as some Brettonian Knights I want to paint.
It would be cool to just focus on my Imperial guard, but I can't help jumping around between projects as I always have new ideas and inspiration leaping into my head. Also, I grow tired of doing one thing all the time, sorry .

My Imperial Guard will also include 7 tanks, 1 Manticore, a couple of APC's/AFV's and 2 super-heavy tanks. All in different stages of painting/building.

So it is good bye to generic, boring, brown army, and hello fantasmic new and, as of yet, unknown army ;D

I hope I keep this going and you guys enjoy it. As one of the reason's I'm recording my progress on IGMB is to keep me motivated.

Well, I must say, it did take me a while, its a pretty rare technique.

Well, It's been a week so an update is in order. I have finished my first test mini for the army, I just need to complete the base, I need some water effects for that.

I have also made some progress on the test mini for my Dark Angels successor chapter from Dark Vengeance and a Kroot Shaper I was given as a present.

Test Mini. I started experimenting with washes for the flamer at the end, so it looks a little odd with half the model wash based and half painted normally, but I quite like the overall look:













I hope you guys like what you see. I am just stripping another Guardsman to try out some lasgun conversions and an all wash based colour scheme. I want to be able to get through this army without too much hassle, I am already a slow painter and washes seem like a great way to speed things up. I got some inspiration from this guy's log:

Lookin good, I can see you like purple and that one tank flamer is quite original . Good progress. Have you ever thought about playing Emperors Children or Hawk Lords. Their all pruple baby

@ad: I actually prefer a lighter grey, it gives more contrast between the dark purple and the grey. I haven't even done any highlights yet so we'll see how it goes.

@ivory: I do indeed like purple, I know of hawk lords and emperors children but the dark vengeance set has dark angels symbols sculpted onto them, I wouldn't be bothered to try and change them. More importantly though, I don't like doing the codex colours for my armies, and I get tired of painting one colour all the time. This way, I get purple, but still don't hate it after I finish painting a squad. I also like the mix of a base colour and grey.
I prefer a single tank for the promethium. I find the double tanks too bulky and unwieldy looking, I'm glad you like it.

@gearbox: It would be pretty cool I think, I'm pretty sure I could get some nice camo going with my airbrush. There is only one problem, I am still not certain on what I will paint my tanks. I'm leaning more towards painting my tanks as if they are from their own regiment, and hence will have a different colour scheme, once again it's because of my need to mix things up.
