Deep striking Land Raiders anyone?

I managed to pick up a couple of Land Raiders very cheaply on Ebay. One will be finding itself refurbished properly and added into my Imperial Guard army as an allied unit (I have started writing the fluff for that one), the other one is being turned into terrain.

Stage 1 - close assault on a Land Raider with a tenon saw. As you will see, it's basically a hulk; most of the weapons and hatches are missing and I'll replace some from the bits box.


Stage 2 - the bases are cut from 6mm MDF, the Land Raider parts are stuck down with plenty of hot glue. The larger part will be painted as a Blood Angel vehicle, so I'll do the basing in standard grass colours. The smaller part will go into my Mars terrain so I will probably paint it up in Ultramarine colours to clash with the red basing.


Stage 3 - hatches replaced, weaponry replaced, I will add some torn-away wiring to the right sponson where I'm not going to put a new gun in place but basically I can sand the base and start painting once it's all dried.

Whilst effective for table top terrain, I admit I have many problems with it but then that's just me being me! I like things real and a tank just wouldn't end up like that.

I would at least hack up the edges first, just tear them to pieces, a least then it looks like Carnifex or something has ripped it to pieces ;D

It's an in joke about the deep striking Blood Angels land raiders. Which is why it's embedded vertically...

Happens to the best of us Cosmic. Brilliant conversion/terrain piece wulfric. Are you going to paint it or just leave it as is?

The main piece will go into my greenfields terrain set - painted as blood angels, grassy earth and sand. The smaller piece goes with my Mars terrain, so red earth and probably an Ultramarine colour scheme on the armour to make it clash nicely

It's good that you are splitting them between boards. I think they'll both benefit from not being next to each other (unless you paint an orange ring around one of those bases and a blue one around the other).

That said, I'm kinda sad that the Mars one won't be sinking into a lake. It would really suit that.

Orks don't build good roads! potholes may be deeper than they appear

The grass base could do with some displaced earth around it, where it has dug in from the impact.

or you could add some mucky water, as if it deepstriked right into a small mucky pool?

I think a puzzled-looking techmarine would finish this off nicely.....

Love it. A friend of mine once ended a 1500pt battle by turn three by deepstriking TWO Landraiders into the middle of my army. This feat was achieved in no small way due to not scattering a single inch for either of them and some very successful shooting on his behalf.

Very comical idea. However may I suggest placing a half squashed/half revealed blood angel model from underneath it? Otherwise I fully agree with 3ff3ct, that Techmarine has a loooonnnnggggg day ahead of him.
