I'd say either leave 'em be, or go with the beige-ish color. They look good as is, but the beige would convey that WWI, early tech gas mask look when they were made of canvas.

What about an orange, white or dark red or even dark green stripe mowhawk running down center of their helmets?

id leave em black, tho id plaint the eye lenses and the metal parts of the masks

if it helps. the gas masks they issue my unit, eye lenses are clear mask is black and the filter canister is green
