Alright, so I *finally* got a camera that can shoot half decent pics, so I figured I'd throw my painting skills to the wolves fine upstanding folks on this forum. In actually looking at these guys under a zoom... wow. Firstly, I thought my eyes were in better shape than this. Also, my detail work sucks, because I have Tourette's Syndrome and my hands shake like a junkie in withdrawal (the pot and a half of coffee every day probably doesn't help, either.)
A bit of background on the regiment: The Irregulars started out as the 482nd Cadian. As is the Deptartmento Munitorum's wont, as various regiments shrank, they were combined, and the 482nd was a common dumping ground for undersized units. Eventually, it became so difficult to trace the regiment's lineage that the Munitorum finally gave up on renaming them every few years. In the interest of convenience, they were dubbed the Imperial Irregulars, forever a band of misfits and castoffs, united in service to the Emperor. They maintain their standard Cadia-pattern flak armor and M36 lasrifles, as the designs are simple, rugged, and easily mass produced. When a new regiment is absorbed, their old uniforms, standards, and all other identifying aspects are stripped, and they are issued with new equipment and equivalent ranks, to maintain cohesion and reduce disciplinary issues. Even so, insubordination and internecine conflict are relatively common. It would be dreadfully wasteful to simply execute every instigator that came up, so the Commissars assigned to the 482nd - and there are quite a few of them, to be sure - usually tend to keep order by intimidation and a good bludgeoning, rather than the barrel of a bolt pistol. Indeed, the 3rd Company is notoriously troublesome, and typically boasts no less than six commissars, as well as the permanent assignment of Lord Commissar Johann Van Saandt.
In nearly every other respect, the Irregulars are a typical Guard regiment. Their ranks, organization and formations are fairly standard, though their size tends to ebb and flow with casualties and reinforcements. Artillery, air support and heavy armor are assigned as Segmentum Command sees fit, though the regiment does maintain its own fleet of Chimeras and Sentinels. The regiment's commander, Lt. General William MacCray, favors tactical flexibility and overwhelming firepower in his combat doctrines, and each company will typically have at least one mechanized platoon, as well as a substantial amount of heavy weapons and artillery. Due to the nature of the Irregulars, they also tend to field a higher percentage of veteran squads, and these are often deployed with specific objectives in mind, much in the way that Stormtroopers are utilized. In any given battle formation, there may be one or two squads of veterans on the main battlefield, but another two or three working away from the main force to accomplish a related goal.
So, without further rambling, I present the beginnings of the 482nd Imperial Irregulars. I will add more pics as I continue to finish the army. First up, Captain Jonn Taggart of the 1st Company.
Major Luisa Haggen of the Imperial Navy:
Captain Igor Streizen of the 19th Bannorn Heavy Artillery:
Captain Taggart's personal bodyguards:
Mortar team:
Group shot:
And a commissar, whom I still need to base and hit with some clearcoat:
So there you have it. The beginnings of the 482nd Imperial Irregulars, prepared to take the fight to the enemies of the Emperor. C&C?
