Squats!

Hey all, I have had Squats / Demiurg / Stunties on the brain and I have been re-imagining some of the ancient Rogue Trader era miniatures to a more reasonable iteration. I will not be doing the trikes however, just a personal preference. Anyways, here is the result of a bit of sketching, digging through bits, hacking, sanding, gluing, and just a touch of scratch building of my first Exo armor. Do a Google search if you are not familiar with the old minis to see just how bad they were (it was no wonder they were declared eaten by Tyranids...).













My intention is to do a small allied force of Imperial Guard allied with Space Marines / Dark Angels. Imperial Guard will be the core of the army with the Exo armor being counts-as-Terminators.

Comments are welcome, just no general hating on the Squats please, they have already lost their homeworlds and there is no need to ridicule the survivors any further.

I was debating getting some fantasy Dwarfs to convert in to Squats. This one looks amazing by the way.

i remember squats from titan legions but not the 40k scale squats. Squats used to have some cool mobile fortresses about 3 times the size of baneblades. they always reminded me of the ja wa transport from star wars lol

Yeah, the giant butter knife is kind of a trademark thing I brought over from the old Exo armor suits, though not all of them will end up with the power blade. And hey, its a power knife... It toasts as it slices! I have seen the Mantic figures before, unfortunately they do not quite fit what I have in mind. The land train is way down the road, but the Leviathan is a very real possibility via a Stormlord transport...

Ok, I threw some old school primary and secondary color bright paint on it. Not entirely sold on the paint scheme, but I am going to leave it alone for now and I can always strip and repaint it later.

I love the mini, but I hate the blade.

Yeah, I just had to do at least one like the old style blade. The 'production' ones will be armed with different weapons that are not quite so ridiculous.

The Exo suit looks amazing and really close to the original design.

How will you approach the standard troopers if you disliked the old squats?

I have plans in the works... Space Marine scout legs with Cadian shoulder pads on the knees, chopped and dropped as it were, resulting in a not quite so squished dwarf frame. They will be a bit more realistic in proportions rather than a body with shoes sticking out. I mean come on, they are not penguins!

At this moment, just that test figure. I am waiting on parts for converting more.

Ideally I want to get hold of the Forge World pre-heresy space marine shoulder held special and heavy weapons to outfit them. I would also like to get the DKoK mole mortars, thudd guns, and maybe some rapier units. My biggest pipe dream for these guys is one of the pre-heresy landraiders (Or even a Typhon heavy siege tank!). I will likely be scratch building that along with mole transports to count as drop pods of various types.

For Imperial Guard units I would love to get the Bombard kit... I imagine that the Squats would field the biggest bore guns they possibly can (something about compensating for their stature...)

As far as the infantry goes, I already have the boxes ordered, I am waiting for them to arrive.

So what sort of things are you willing to provide? And in exchange for what?

I'll have to check my bits but I know that I have one of the old RT shoulder mounted HW's. I'm away from home until Sunday but will check and let you know.

The big thing that would be helpful are separate shoulder pads from the new imperial guard vehicle sprues.

Also, what should the Imperial Guard stand ins wear on their heads? The aviator style helmets like the RT minis or should they be wearing military style caps?
